The smelling salts worked a treat. His eyes popped open, burned like the dickens and started watering. He pushed Jackie away from him. Once the noxious vapors cleared his head, it took the Doctor .248 seconds to work out what had happened. Well, everything but the impossible bits and those could wait. He'd been archived. Successfully, it seemed, because .248 seconds was a respectable mental response time for a post-regeneration calculation.

I heard this song for the first time on Monday's The Voice and I thought it could have been written by a Doctor/Rose fan after JE. I would love to do a vid to it. But I would love even more if one of the extraordinarily talented vidders I know would do one. Humans R Superior would rock it. Or Seduff. Or Bunny! SIGH!

Author's Notes: Once upon a time, a long time before Journey's End, I wrote a story called “What Wild Geese Know” that featured Ten and Rose starting out to be normal people like...well...everyone has now imagined Ten2 and Rose to be. But then Journey's End happened and I lost all taste for my favorite show. But still, I wanted to finish my Wild Geese 2 story idea. This story is going to take some of those ideas and work them around with a bit of what is happening with the Moffat/Matt series of Doctor Who thrown in to the mix, because I can't ignore that canon, I just can't.

Summary: There are a lot of unanswered questions in New Who. Loopholes in the plot that are shouted out loud. “Why did the TARDIS door close?” for example. Who closed it? Why did all time lines end with Donna? Who was that woman who warned Wilf? What caused that explosion on the TARDIS during the Tenth Doctor's regeneration? And when did the Doctor become such a helpless child, so afraid of endings? Of course, it may never be connected by canon. But I will connect it all here. The explosion on the TARDIS was the start of another story, in another universe. This is that tale.

Disclaimer: I own nothing associated with Doctor Who. This is simply a way to pay homage to characters I love and wish to preserve in my mind.

LOL! Well, then, Mister, you are one hell of an actor. I also found it very nice to hear him praise the crew while slightly downplaying the "suits" and I wondered when he remarked on how much it hurt to be criticized for the program...just what he might be referencing. The return of the show was so brilliant, that I can't imagine too many critical remarks being shot at Chris. And yet, we also heard him recently say that he didn't like the way the crew was treated. I wonder if they do face a lot of interference from the BBC...or did. I also wonder how much of a hard road The Moff is traveling these days. I mean, all we hear in the press is the uberpraise which is frankly wrong footed, in my opinion, but perhaps Matt and Moff take their lumps behind the scenes.

Of course, I couldn't help noticing what turned out to be nothing more than RTD's signature babble...but what could have so easily been beautiful foreshadowing...in Rose. We get the storm coming and the idea of the Doctor's most constant companion being death. We could have so easily tied in to Dalek's Caan's prophecy and made a beautiful full circle with the Doctor deciding to face Rose's death and the grief of it, by sharing her full short life with her. But...no...no...instead we've got the crap idea of a half-finished story with a stand-in Doctor. I'm just sorry there is probably no canon way to fix it now. It can only be address in a novel or fic. But it was there, from the first episode...meaningless babble, of course, as we now know.

And Chris is so lovely. Just abundantly charming...and very funny...and he has those electric blue eyes. I wish he could have given us just one more season.

Trying times are trying. I'm in pain. I'm exhausted. I'm a crankypants. And I intend to be quite disagreeable about a few things which have irritated me this evening. Sure, on some other evening I might be willing to see these issues from both sides...but right now...I'm completely unreasonable.( Read more... )

It has been suggested (quite fairly, I admit) that I am getting people's hopes up when they are almost certain to be left crushed and broken by the piles of manure and bundles of socks that shall rain down on them from the sky on New Year's Day as The End of Time reaches its inevitably dark conclusion.

I will acknowledge that the odds are running at a steady 50/50 for our pony actually arriving as we hope he will. Which is why today's icon is only 1/2 of a Pony! On the one hand, we have all of the peripheral plotlines in place to pull off a pony surprise to delight and amaze. On the other hand, we have Children of Earth, Journey's End and the sad excuse of tradition for RTD to fall back on if he gives us socks.

Let's see if we can be soothed a bit by a few RTD quotes...( Read more... )

EDIT TO ADD: While watching that first vid, it struck me that he very seldom apologized to Rose. In fact, adding to the whole wrongness of JE...he doesn't apologize to her when he really should...instead he expects her to understand him. He also makes no apologies in Doomsday. I suppose love really does mean never having to say you're sorry! :grin:
