Trying times are trying. I'm in pain. I'm exhausted. I'm a crankypants. And I intend to be quite disagreeable about a few things which have irritated me this evening. Sure, on some other evening I might be willing to see these issues from both sides...but right now...I'm completely unreasonable.

1) VOTE TEN/ROSE in this poll. It is unacceptable that we are not even scoring high enough for .1% of the vote. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b166812_tvs_top_couples_tournament_happy.html?sid=twitterfeed_kristin&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=twitterfeed&utm_campaign=twitterfeed_kristin

Spike/Buffy have .1%. I ship Spuffy, but I can't put them ahead of Ten/Rose in a Valentine's Day poll. Come on, people! Vote! Vote! Vote! Yes...I know...maybe you like another pair more. But this is for Valentine's Day. They want romance and joy and all the other happy couple stuff. Chuck/Sarah are doing very well and I suppose I could make a good case for them as a sappy, happy pairing. John/Aeryn are in there and are TECHNICALLY a better couple overall than Ten/Rose...mostly because one of them wasn't a whiny, self-centered schmoe at the end. But still, Ten/Rose is definitely more delightful episode for episode than any other couple in television history. So, I feel this is more of an exposure issue than a true reflection of the couple-appeal. I mean...House/Cuddy? For Valentine's Day? Puh-leez! See #3 below for more on that issue.

2) Bode Miller is an odd-ball. Yes, he's childish in his completely hedonistic views. But is he wrong? He enjoys skiing! He does it for himself...not for the medals or the glory or the acclaim. If he can't enjoy himself he is going to take his poles and go home and play with his daughter. I am sure he works hard, but he doesn't think of it as work. He knows he's good at downhill and he is only interested in performing well. Yes, yes, that is rather self-involved of him. I mean, it's sort of unAmerican to do what you love and do it only because you are enjoying yourself. But I find I am quite irritated by all the suits in analysis chairs whinging about how Bode Miller should take the Olympics seriously. Really? Is it absolutely necessary that every athlete give NBC a kiss or cry moment for the nightly wrap-up montage? Nearly everyone out there is taking the Olympics seriously. Teenagers are risking death or horrific injury for a piece of metal on a ribbon. Can't we let this one guy have a good time and not worry his admittedly self-centered head about the medals?

3) House/Cuddy is on the upswing. Or so I hear. I wonder if the show knows that I am consistently choosing Chuck over House these days and Huddy will turn me off completely. Now, I'm a House/Wilson shipper so I'm not going to like any other pairing. But that's not what this is about...at least I don't think it is about that. Sure, okay...some sour grapes are involved I suppose. But I used to think House/Cuddy would work for me. Newsflash: It does NOT! Surprisingly, I have found that it doesn't work for a lot of people, even those people (like my brother) who thought they WOULD like it.

I will tell you why it is giving the Rabid-Kin a shipper wedgie. We think Cuddy is losing her mojo. We used to respect her, but since House started...well...not mooning over her, exactly, but basically being more of an ass than usual around her...she's lost her appeal as a character. Cuddy used to be a powerful woman with her hand on the reins. Yes, she wore inappropriate clothing, but she didn't let her sexuality undermine her authority. Lately, she's lost all semblence of authority. Now, Wilson isn't powerful either, but then he never was. Wilson's appeal as a character is in his relationship to House on an emotional level, and I feel he should use it more. But Cuddy needs to have...balls. Huddy neuters her, in my crankypants opinion, and I don't like it.

4) Cranky figure skaters being cranky about the new skating rules are making me...disagreeable. I know Dick Button would rather we had the smooth spirals of 20 years ago, but the fact is that figure skating wasn't as compelling then. And it's been boring for the last...oh...16 years or so. The same people were winning over and over again with the most god-awful routines. Yes, I am looking right straight at you, Alexis! The quest for the perfect quad was turning the sport into a series of make it or fall on your ass moments rather than a beautiful test of endurance and grace under pressure. And, if I can speak even more frankly, I find the intricate spins and spiral moves that are becoming a regular part of the pairs competition a fascinating advance in skill and style. Some of those spins tonight almost made me forget that I was having a trying week.
