Trying times are trying. I'm in pain. I'm exhausted. I'm a crankypants. And I intend to be quite disagreeable about a few things which have irritated me this evening. Sure, on some other evening I might be willing to see these issues from both sides...but right now...I'm completely unreasonable.

1) VOTE TEN/ROSE in this poll. It is unacceptable that we are not even scoring high enough for .1% of the vote. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b166812_tvs_top_couples_tournament_happy.html?sid=twitterfeed_kristin&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=twitterfeed&utm_campaign=twitterfeed_kristin

Spike/Buffy have .1%. I ship Spuffy, but I can't put them ahead of Ten/Rose in a Valentine's Day poll. Come on, people! Vote! Vote! Vote! Yes...I know...maybe you like another pair more. But this is for Valentine's Day. They want romance and joy and all the other happy couple stuff. Chuck/Sarah are doing very well and I suppose I could make a good case for them as a sappy, happy pairing. John/Aeryn are in there and are TECHNICALLY a better couple overall than Ten/Rose...mostly because one of them wasn't a whiny, self-centered schmoe at the end. But still, Ten/Rose is definitely more delightful episode for episode than any other couple in television history. So, I feel this is more of an exposure issue than a true reflection of the couple-appeal. I mean...House/Cuddy? For Valentine's Day? Puh-leez! See #3 below for more on that issue.

2) Bode Miller is an odd-ball. Yes, he's childish in his completely hedonistic views. But is he wrong? He enjoys skiing! He does it for himself...not for the medals or the glory or the acclaim. If he can't enjoy himself he is going to take his poles and go home and play with his daughter. I am sure he works hard, but he doesn't think of it as work. He knows he's good at downhill and he is only interested in performing well. Yes, yes, that is rather self-involved of him. I mean, it's sort of unAmerican to do what you love and do it only because you are enjoying yourself. But I find I am quite irritated by all the suits in analysis chairs whinging about how Bode Miller should take the Olympics seriously. Really? Is it absolutely necessary that every athlete give NBC a kiss or cry moment for the nightly wrap-up montage? Nearly everyone out there is taking the Olympics seriously. Teenagers are risking death or horrific injury for a piece of metal on a ribbon. Can't we let this one guy have a good time and not worry his admittedly self-centered head about the medals?

3) House/Cuddy is on the upswing. Or so I hear. I wonder if the show knows that I am consistently choosing Chuck over House these days and Huddy will turn me off completely. Now, I'm a House/Wilson shipper so I'm not going to like any other pairing. But that's not what this is about...at least I don't think it is about that. Sure, okay...some sour grapes are involved I suppose. But I used to think House/Cuddy would work for me. Newsflash: It does NOT! Surprisingly, I have found that it doesn't work for a lot of people, even those people (like my brother) who thought they WOULD like it.

I will tell you why it is giving the Rabid-Kin a shipper wedgie. We think Cuddy is losing her mojo. We used to respect her, but since House started...well...not mooning over her, exactly, but basically being more of an ass than usual around her...she's lost her appeal as a character. Cuddy used to be a powerful woman with her hand on the reins. Yes, she wore inappropriate clothing, but she didn't let her sexuality undermine her authority. Lately, she's lost all semblence of authority. Now, Wilson isn't powerful either, but then he never was. Wilson's appeal as a character is in his relationship to House on an emotional level, and I feel he should use it more. But Cuddy needs to have...balls. Huddy neuters her, in my crankypants opinion, and I don't like it.

4) Cranky figure skaters being cranky about the new skating rules are making me...disagreeable. I know Dick Button would rather we had the smooth spirals of 20 years ago, but the fact is that figure skating wasn't as compelling then. And it's been boring for the last...oh...16 years or so. The same people were winning over and over again with the most god-awful routines. Yes, I am looking right straight at you, Alexis! The quest for the perfect quad was turning the sport into a series of make it or fall on your ass moments rather than a beautiful test of endurance and grace under pressure. And, if I can speak even more frankly, I find the intricate spins and spiral moves that are becoming a regular part of the pairs competition a fascinating advance in skill and style. Some of those spins tonight almost made me forget that I was having a trying week.

I'm doing my patriotic duty by voting for Ten/Rose!

You're allowed to have a cranky day, I have a complete melt down the other day!

*Huggles You* (But totally not in a way that makes you grouchy)

Ah, you do know crankiness if you understand how a *huggle can make you grouchier!

I am sorry that you felt the urge to melt down...but I'm sure it was completely called for at the time.

Go Ten/Rose. I mean...seriously...most of those couples are textbook examples of dysfunction. I truly did ship Spuffy big time...but they were NOT Valentine's Day Card worthy. I would actually back Angel/Buffy over Spike/Buffy for a Valentine's Day Poll. But nobody is going to beat Ten/Rose even with him giving up on his own happiness and undermining hers...he still loved her to the very end there...so...I have to forgive him...even if I can't forgive RTD.

I know crankiness well! I live with my mother *Sniggers* I hope you are feeling better soon.

Lets just say that fic where someone dies, (even if it was Ten2) is not what I needed right then.

Couldn't agree more. House and Cuddy, where are all these Hugh Laurie fans cropping up from? Someone needs to post the link at tennant_love!

I think the poll is broken. I can't believe that there's so few of us voting that there's still 0 percent. Until they release individual votes I say this is fixed.

It's okay to be a crankypants when you don't feel good. I have decreed it so. *waves scepter or magic wand or something*

Wow. Most couples are getting decimated in that poll. I tossed in my voted for Ten/Rose, but it's not looking so good.

You know, I think I'd rather see athletes who are out there just because they love it than those who push themselves ridiculously hard just for a few shiny medals. If they're not having fun, then it's just work, and what's the point?

I've been wanting House and Cuddy to get together, but I'm worried about how this is going to work out. You're right, the old spark has definitely been missing for a while. Cuddy just seems so defeated by life all the time now, and doesn't stand toe-to-toe with House like she used to.

I haven't watched any of the figure skating yet. I know what you mean about the crap routines and it being all about landing those insane jumps and such. I'd rather see impressive artistry any day of the week.

I love Bode Miller. He's a breath of fresh air. I hope he does well today!

I do enjoy the intricate spirals (and some of those lifts were amazing, especially the second American pair) but I have to agree with Button on the grabbing the skate all the time. Even I noticed that and wondered what was going on before he mentioned it and I'm usually clueless. Some of them look plain awkward.

Don't even get me started on the scoring in figure skating.

Bode is definitely unaffected and that is inspiring in its own way.

As for the skate grabbing...yes...I too feel that it is often awkward and it definitely made me go WTH the first few times I saw it. But the German couple won me over with their seamlessness. I think it is something that just requires us to adjust. It will demand greater artistry of the skaters in time, though, and that's a good thing. Also, I did notice that the winning pair had a very nice long spiral camel.

Normally I'd be all 10/Rose whoo! But then I realized they had Helo/Athena and Adama/Roslin and NO LEE/KARA. A travesty! My tied OTP with 10/Rose and completely unfulfillable ship isn't even considered. I must weep now.

Now I'm disagreeable.

That is completely wrong about Kara/Lee. But it sort of supports my push for 10/Rose, really, because the reason Helo/Athena is on there is the open demonstrations of their affection...I believe.

And if I could take a moment in my comments to you to rant a little more on a personal note. My most passionate ships have been Kara/Lee, Spike/Buffy and 10/Rose. I would think the first two would put the lie to the idea that I just don't want any angst and THAT is why I write happy endings for 10/Rose. Honestly, I seem to favor angsty couples for the most part. It's just that 10/Rose loved one another so completely, so absolutely that I STILL think you have to close your mind to canon to NOT ship them.

Though, I am equally certain that Moffat's canon will do it's best to minimize the impact of Rose, and while I do think that RTD was a spineless or non-imaginative weasel with that self-indulgent end to Ten...I still can't say that he ever turned his back on the Doctor/Rose love story. It was there in the final scene even.

...mostly because one of them wasn't a whiny, self-centered schmoe at the end...

Um, yeah, it does make it difficult to prefer T/R over all others ... the potential is/was there, but there wasn't follow-thru.

...Cuddy used to be a powerful woman with her hand on the reins. Yes, she wore inappropriate clothing, but she didn't let her sexuality undermine her authority...

Both defined her and was the best aspect of her character.

...a beautiful test of endurance and grace under pressure...the intricate spins and spiral moves...of the pairs competition a fascinating advance in skill and style...

When skating prefers athletics over grace, it lacks purpose. There's a reason that they set the routines to music!

Oh, g'won, be annoyed, if it makes you feel better. ;-D

Did you notice that River/Jayne and random other ships that don't exist outside of fandom, like apparently Nate/Jenny for Gossip Girl (eww)? I have no idea who put together that poll, but apparently they were on crack if they put incest on it and expected people to vote. I haven't watched House since they started making stuff up.

How did Xander/Anya even make it onto that poll?

Also, I saw "Picard/Crusher," and I usually associate the latter surname with Wesley, so I spent a few seconds like "D:OH GOD" until my brain caught up. Beverly, duh.

Finally, you should note that it's impossible for you to sound disagreeable in any part of your entry where I can see your happysexy Billie icon. It's so agreeable, it kind of negates your negativity. :-p (Did you see SDoaCG last night? LOL FOREVER PC ANDY.)

First, let me say...I love your icon. Second, yeah...seriously on mine being inappropriate for crankiness. LOL! I thought about changing it for this post. I should really. I will.

I am currently behind on all of my television shows because we have been sick and exhausted at home. When you have a chronic illness yourself, you really can't take proper care of a household...let alone other people in it. Luckily, my sister lives locally and she and my neighbors helped me out this last week and 1/2. But soon I will get back in the swing of things again.

Oh...and Xander/Anya? Really? Why not Tara/Willow? Oh, yes...because Valentine's Day is about "traditional" romance. Which, yes...we Spike/Buffy shippers totally embrace.
