rabid1stYes, you read that correctly. I had a thought about S5 and I know in my heart it is not what is going to happen, because...well...you all know my track record with predicting things in Doctor Who. And this would be such an interesting development...but...not going to happen...

Spoilers relative to the Doctor's new companion Amy Pond, will follow...
I've mentioned several times in the past that the one thing we really need for New Who to come full circle and into its own is to have the Doctor have his grandaughter as a traveling companion at the 50th Anniversary, which is coming up soon.
With the end of RTD's time, I had naturally assumed that there was no way for that to happen. However, in a way, there IS a way for that to happen. I thought that Moffat would avoid addressing Rose in any way. But there is a hint that he DOES address her at some point. And that made me wonder if Ten2/Rose could have children who crossed temporal or dimension boundaries.
Apparently, Amy Pond is encountered by the Doctor as a child. She wants to know if he is there to fix the crack in the wall. And she has no parents in the series. And she has a deeply loving but non-romantic relationship with the Doctor. What if...say...one of Ten2/Rose's grandchildren was sucked through all that temporal mess back in Journey's End? Tumbling like Alice into another world?
That adds some heft to where the trailer was placed...but that could be too much coincidence.
Still, what if the grandaughter I'm expecting turns out to be Amy? Lost from her own dimension? Drawn to the Doctor by that Noble Family DNA? Then...Moffat could indeed solve the problems that RTD didn't solve. Though, it would mean we must conclude that Ten2/Rose were involved as a sexual/romantic couple.
As I've hinted before, I can reconcile myself to that idea now. I have found a way to have my Doctor and let him go on alone, too. All it takes is accepting that he was indeed split in two. And I now believe that is what RTD did...simply because (and here we differ sharply in our attitudes) HE felt there was no other way to have Rose/Doctor completion. I still say it showed a sad lack of courage and imagination on his part. BUT given that IS what he went with in the canon story, I have found a way to make Rose accept Ten2. A way I hope I can one day write out as fiction and share with the rest of you. Here's hoping for the energy.
But in the meantime, it would be very cool if Amy really was the Doctor's grandaughter. Gives me a reason to watch until episode 3 at least. :grin: Of course, there are other ways to introduce a grandaughter...she could have come from Gallifrey during that brief moment while they were transcendent, she could have come from Jenny or from River Song. She couldn't have come from Donna, unless Donna has another bridegroom or we get needlessly complicated with the metacrisis. And we could save the idea of a grandaughter for a one off special at the anniversary where Moffat brings Jenny back into the Doctor's life. But none of that puts an end to the Rose/Doctor story as efficiently as Jenny being their descendent. It also works to tie up all the loose ends that RTD left for Moffat. Not that anyone involved with this show cares about loose ends! :grin:
So, my imagination is working again. Only I do hope that Matt isn't as god-awful as he appears to be in every clip I've seen of him. He's honestly not working for me at all. Though, I understand that he comes around in episode 1 and the audience was thrilled with him.

P.S. There are rumors that the BBC has already given Matt and Moffat the go-ahead for S2. This doesn't surprise me a bit. I was certain the new show would run at least two seasons because of the lag-time on development and ratings. So, even if the ratings tank the show will go on for one more season. I don't think at this moment that it will run the five. But I do imagine we will get it through the 50th Anniversary.

Date: 2010-03-20 05:09 pm (UTC)I doubt we would have a Donna grandchild that looked like Amy unless Donna reconsidered her bridegroom. It doesn't appear that she did that...so...not Donna.
I was thinking that Rose/Ten2 would be unexpected in some ways...as the other two possiblities are more obvious...but then...they DO tend to go with the obvious.
I would actually, in the past, have been against a Ten2/Rose child as it puts an end to most hopes of a Doctor/Rose reconciliation if the child is human. However, I can see Moffat WANTING to put an end to Rose. Which is why I went with that idea.

Date: 2010-03-20 05:54 pm (UTC)Ah. Logical and ...rather disheartening thought. Truthfully, I have very mixed emotions about going back again... showing a 10.2/R HEA (or worse, a NOT HEA!).
I can agree that the show's trend and tradition has been downbeat. Even Old School. To my own surprise, I discover that I'm still am an optimist, however. :shrugs: Jenny's daughter just feels like more fun, ya know? Nothing there to fix, just to enjoy.
