The Official Doctor Who Website SPEAKS
Feb. 5th, 2008 05:51 amWow! I finally got an answer to a query I posted at the Official BBC Doctor Who website. Actually, it was an immediate answer. Usually, I'm politely ignored. But then, mostly, I don't ask a straightforward question. So, what I asked was, "Are there plans to market John Smith's Journal from Human Nature?"
And...they tell me there were plans to add to the pages and publish but those plans fell through. Currently, they are looking to put the existing bits online. But that won't happen until Summer, if it happens at all.
I know this is probably because contract negotiations take time and there are other priorities for the BBC. But part of me thinks that the time could be to link up with storyline..as the existing pages tell us more about the Doctor's feelings for Rose than the PTB are comfortable revealing at this juncture. Am I wrong to think that?

Date: 2008-02-05 11:49 am (UTC)I wonder if these other priorities for the BBC include other merchandise to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Doctor Who, coming up in November?
In the meantime, we shall have to console ourselves with the fob watch.

I'm going to avoid stirring the waters with additional spoilery speculation, but if it's going to turn out that those missing pages from the journal are of some significance, that may be the holdup.

As for the Rose idea: I think that's wishful thinking, honestly. I sincerely doubt they would put off selling/displaying something like this just because they want to keep up some ambiguity about the Doctor's feelings. After all, this would just be something else off-screen, and RTD, DT, and JG have all basically gone on record and made the Doctor's feelings rather clear. Besides, they already put "Perfect Rose" repeatedly. Even if they added in an, "I loved and lost her," it wouldn't have changed much. Either you see the relationship, or you don't. *Shrugs*

I think I'd agree with that, pretty much. What we've already seen of the Journal is pretty unambiguous about what Rose is to him, after all.

Date: 2008-02-25 06:21 am (UTC)Maybe they didn't think it would sell enough to justify the cost of publishing? (Which is a stupid idea because I would have paid a lot of money for it and I'm a poor grad student).
