And back to the dentist I went...
Nov. 22nd, 2011 11:47 pm...because my fillings were too high. I had to have them reground. This is because I have a weird bite. My teeth can meet on one side or the other, but not both sides at once. So, if, say...a dentist...asks me to bite down on the left side...I can. But, later, those teeth will not be in proper alignment with the rest of my teeth.
Yes, that is confusing. The dentist was confused. Even I was confused, initially, because I forgot to mention this problem of jaw alignment to my new dentist. Since it is inside my mouth, you can't see it to look at me. And it doesn't really show up on x-rays because I am asked to bite down on the plates. The act of biting aligns whichever set of teeth I am using, right, left or front. But all of that goes out the window when I simply relax my jaw or when I am chewing food.
As the numbness wore off from the fillings I had replaced last week, I began to feel serious jaw pain. That soon became tooth and gum pain, too. And, I couldn't speak or eat properly, because my left side of my face had become rather domineering. And my right side is my usual chewing side. Trust me, you do not want to grow up with ghetto dentists! They come around in a van, like they are selling ice cream, and for 10 bucks a visit they screw up your teeth forever.
Anyway, tonight, for the first time in two weeks, my jaw is back in alignment. This is making me far less cranky. And I can focus a bit more on life in general. I wonder if the judge would buy this as a reason for my recent accident. I would have noticed that car, your Honor, if my bite hadn't been severely out of alignment.
