John Spencer, the actor who plays Leo McGarry on The West Wing has passed away from a heart attack. If the show wasn't over before...it's over now. How very sad. I love Leo...even if I never did understand the Leo/Jeb shippers. One of my worst moments of the Non-Aaron storyline was when Leo had his heart attack...I thought the story leading up to it rang completely false. My favorite Leo moment was the one when he and Hoynes attended the AA meeting together for the first time. Because they were such bitter political rival and such good men. That was Aaron...that was writing...that was Leo.

Margaret...bring me some tissues.

I just heard the news and couldn't help but wonder what this means for the show, wonder how they can finish it off now. I love that Leo/Hoynes moment too though my favorite would be the end of Noel when he tells Josh he always has a job. The last episode was such a good Leo episode too and the news is just very sad.

Oh...I love that scene, too.

Leo was so good for such a long time. And as someone noted just last week. He's been improving. Loved that he stood up for Josh in the latest episode.

People on my J/D group were all about how the show needs to let Leo die, too. But I don't know if they can manage that kind of rewrite at this stage of the game. It would almost be easier to send Leo on a fact finding tour and then have him spliced in for the final wave at the crowd. But...if Leo is a big player in the final scripts they might want to consider doing the rewrite of three episodes anyway.

It will mean Santos loses the election, though.
I wonder if Sam Seaborn would consider stepping into Leo's shoes? That ticket might stand a chance but realistically...if a campaign were that many points down six weeks out and they lose their VP at four weeks out...there is no way they win the election. Course, luckily they DIDN'T show us who won...and it would be a great tribute to our show if the writers did spend three of the remaining episodes gathering the core players for an homage to Leo (and hence to everything we loved about The West Wing).

I liked him, I was sad when I saw that on the news. I'm not really sure what else to say. He'll be missed.
