Date: 2005-10-11 05:02 am (UTC)Hmm, this looks more like a Lee/Kara piece than a straight Apollo piece, not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. You do use conflicted Lee and Lee/Papadama later in the vid, and it's very effective. Still, considering how Lee's issues are not all about Kara (well, not 100% of the time), it would be great to see more of that father/son tension. And then Lee had some pretty good character development early in season 2, either alone (the whole parole/brig storyline), or with Tigh, or with Laura. I realize this maybe a source availability issue as well, in that case, ignore me.
ETA: I'm not trying to discount Lee/Kara's role in the vid. Their scenes do fit the lyrics incredibly well and they do contribute to Lee's story.
I really like the evocative head shots you used. Delectable emo Lee is always of the good :) It would be even better if you teased us a little, though. For example I know it's extremely tempting to hold something like that for the entire length of the original clip, but considering the song's faster beat, how about breaking them up a little? Actually you did that several times, you used fast cuts very effectively. Oh dear, what am I saying, I'm usually not a fan of super fast MTV type editing, everything is good in moderation.
Before the computer started acting up, I did make note of several sequences. "I want to breathe effortlessly" around 1:00 is just gorgeous and the lyrics parallel the action very well. There was another one, at the end of the finger painting scene, the editing is very effective there.
Returning to Lee/Kara, sneaky sneaky Rabid, did you do that thing you did in the previous vid, making it look like they've had sex and are putting their clothes back on (around 2:44 I think)? Suggestive editing, I say ;-) I'm not complaining.
Gobi,
who would like to apologize for trampling all over your vid
Hi, Gobi...very effective insight as usual
Date: 2005-10-11 10:43 am (UTC)Like you, I don't really enjoy the MTV cutting...more importantly and where you are an excellent beta to sense it...I'm just not very good at it yet.
Though in my next vid I am going to try a lot more. I think I lingered too long on the first shot. But then I'm not completely sure because what I wanted to do was have the moody shots give way to the faster more reactive stuff. And yes, I'm guilty of tweaking a shot to make it look like something else. I do that again in the Kara fantasy to make it look like it's his fantasy. But notice I didn't stay there for "Live in this moment"...because that would be TOO shipper fangirl of me. ;-D
Rae
taking your advice to heart.

Date: 2005-10-11 05:28 pm (UTC)I noticed that. I think it's a great idea.
When you have so much terrific footage to choose from, it's hard to make those final decisions (at least for me, and that's why I'm not tempted to vid). I'd always second guess myself and never get anything finished.
And like Bunny said, you're learning to do movement very well. And you're an excellent story teller, and this translates into your vids.
