Ichnobate Part 12 is on a whirlwind tour of Beta-babe houses. I am patiently waiting by my phone ('cause I have dial-up) for some word.

I don't know how long it takes to beta read 18 pages of fic...but I'm pretty sure it takes longer than 6 minutes...which is how long I waited before checking for a reply from my beta babes. Then I had some tea and toast...then I checked again. Still nothing.

So...how have you all been?

I haven't even received it yet, if you sent it to me, so don't torture your keyboard on my account.

...I just need to link these two up and you should have lots of fic to read...unless the Betababes have a problem with my linkage...and 14 becomes 15. That happened before with Chapter 8 becoming chapter 10, I believe.

But there is light at the end of the Ichnobate tunnel now. Might be the baleful light in the eyes of an oncoming hound...but it is light none-the-less.

Oh, and thank you, fishie for the readership and commentary.

*snort* Well, I'm glad you mentioned it, because I hadn't yet checked my email. (Speaking of mail... can I open it, or should I wait?) I think 18 pages should take me... I dunno, I never time my betas... an hour or two, I suppose. However, I think you'll have to wait until I'm not on a library computer, since they inexplicably don't seem to have Word. If it makes you feel better, I have to wait too. *twitch* I'll check it at my mom's office this evening.

I'm cross with the library, because they seem to feel that sending a cranky note on the 7th, and me returning the book on the 12th, isn't "immediately", so I have to pay the processing fee as well as the billing fee. I'd go along with that, except then they've added an explicable extra $5 to my fine on top of that $25. What the shit is that? Is that the "I want a latte, five dollah" fine?

I know, you're a librarian... you probably hate patrons like me... I don't do it to be difficult, I'm just forgetful! Also, I dispute the premise of the "recall" arrangement. "Your book is due... now!"

Whoa! A new way to add to my retirement fund!

Inexplicable $5 fees.

Actually, we charge a straight 15 cents per day, per item...only for days we are open so you don't pay for holidays and weekends...as long as you bring the item back in good condition. If you bring the book back after it was BILLED OUT (when the fine reaches the cost of the book...after say A YEAR) we deduct a processing fee of $3.00.

You should move to Florida. But if you do...please remember while it IS cheaper...the level of service we are able to provide is in line with the cost of that service(in other words...get back in line and wait for me to finish my LJ response, Missy!)

Turns out, it was based on the $2 a day they charge after something's been recalled. (They seem positive I got the notice Tuesday, before last, as that's when the form was dated... but the postmark was before... but I don't think I did... anyway.) How they got $5 from that, I didn't ask. They were kinda pissy at being asked to account for it. And was all, "you can talk to so and so in billing." I'd already told her I was gonna pay... I really did just want an explanation. Then the lady was stunned when I plunked the money down in front of her. Dude, when your form says "after a month fines will be submitted to collection", even scattered me will cough up the cash after a week. Cuz, dude.

The reason the fines were outta control was that someone recalled it, and then I didn't get it back right away, so they (I think) planned to buy another. So I got billed for them billing me, basically. Also, it was a college library, not the town library. Guess they're pretty cutthroat. My dad's actually on the library committee... I should ask him why a $12-14 paperback costs $45 when a library buys it.

I opened the outer packaging, but not the wrapped part, and of course it's at home. Oooh, anticipation. (Btw? Open yours. It is perishable.)

Oh...and you may open...

...if you wish...or wait! It isn't parishible (if that's how you spell it)...and it is wrapped on the inside. Hope you don't have one just like it already.
