...is on the site! Let's have a round of applause for my Beta Babes!

Now you can find out the answer to all those pressing questions...that's right...Buffy and Spike have been standing there stark naked for far too long while you all waited to find out what happened next. Now, at long last...you can learn what kind of response the Scoobies have to our stark naked heroes.

Find the next chapter at:

http://www.geocities.com/rabid1st/ichnobate11.htm

If you can't remember what happened (or you've never heard of this fic)...you can start at the sex in Chapter 9...or start at the beginning...from my fanfiction page:

http://www.geocities.com/rabid1st/fanfiction.html

I hope you all enjoy the chapter...please, let me know if you do...'cause I am working on Chapter 12 and I could use a carrot.

It probably didn't help Dawn's view of things that Xander was around spewing his prejudice into her or that Buffy didn't tell her about how she behaved sooner before the bad shit had time to sink in.

I don't think Dawn's behavior here is an inexplicable as the behavior of Giles in "Lies My Parents Told Me" or for that matter as inexplicable as Dawn's behavior in S7. Dawn got a really bad scare in "Conversations with Dead People" and yet, the show didn't give a big Dawn pay-off for that scare. She seems to just go along with things on the show (I suppose her betray, standing with the gang near the end might be inspired by the warning...but that wasn't clear...and I hope my version is). All I'm doing in this chapter is allowing the natural progression of Xander's continual commentary, the memory of her Mom's warning and Buffy's poor communication skills come to a simmer in one big ol' pot of teenage angst.

Hope this means you liked the chapter.

Oh , I did, I did. I can't wait to see what happens because of Dawn going off with Oedipus... er I mean Wood.

There's a story called Color of Devotion by Ryoko45 archived at Morbid Desires that has Xander realize what damage he's done to Dawn with his hatred of Spike. It's pretty good especially in that regard.

Ah...another fic for the list

...I am afraid I almost never get out to read...because all of my free time is spent in writing...however, I do have a long list of Buffy fic I mean to read one day. I will add this one...and also the archive...which is new to me.

And yes, there is an element of that vibe in the next chapter of Ichnobate. Though more like Xander seeing how childish his behavior can look on another person. Sort of like when you see someone throw a fit about something and you feel embarrassed that you might have looked the same way.

Whoa. It's been a long time since I've read the previous installments, and I must say it's proceeding nicely. You left us with a bit of a cliffhanger (note my sly understatement here), and frankly, I expected things to get much darker. I thought that your S7 frustrations had come to a nice simmering boil (and now I suppose it's been removed to a slow flame. Hehe. I can't resist that Spike line from What's My Line, part II) and that your were going to turn towards a much more gruesome arc. Not that I'm complaining about being pleasantly surprised. Not me, no. Plus, Ethan, and now Wood and Dawn are lurking out there, so I suppose this is the calm before yet another storm. I really enjoyed this collective therapy session for the Scoobies. It was very satisfying to see the much needed confrontations with Dawn, Giles, Xander and Faith. The Xander bits are especially delicious.

Reading this also brings back memories of how this fic got started, first following along with Season 7 and then taking off, in a rather satisfying manner. Plus, the evil teasing and the resulting begging at WeBoB forums and the omeletes of seduction and etc. [gobi fans herself] Good times.

Thanks for integrating and expanding all the great snippets from Season 7. Stuff like Faith and Spike interaction. Andrew. Amanda.

Glad to have surprised you, Gobi. It would be fair to say I am simmering at this point. I think there were things we all wanted to see...like Buffy come into her own as a woman...that require work. I think her standing up to people in a more mature way than we saw in S7 helps establish that tone. Also, I laid the groundwork (and Joss did too) for Dawn to be the loose link. JW probably feels he gave pay-off in Potential and in that crappy eppy where Buffy is kicked out of her house for the Dawn Foreshadowing...but to me...Conversations with Dead People was SCARY. I think there should be BIG pay-off for that kind of build up and there was none to speak of in S7.

All Ichnobate is doing in my opinion is giving pay-off on what Joss set in motion. Part of that is Dawn's going to the dark side based on her fear of (what she sees as) Spike's slick lies as a vampire and Buffy's crazy emotional rollercoaster and Joyce's warnings from the grave. Another part of that is Spike and Buffy coming into their own as grown-ups. And then...finally...(EVIL GRIN) there's the foreshadowed "gruesome arc."

Glad you liked the understated emotions in this chapter...that was what I was going for...and...yes, I wanted to give everyone voice in this chapter. It's funny...I love writing Andrew even though I don't think he was the greatest character. I can see why they kept him around...he is undeniably a treat to write.

Exactly. "Conversations with Dead People" promised so much, and I had been waiting for further development throughout the season, but we didn't exactly get it, did we? At least we have writers like you, my dear, to right all the wrongs. And I'm very grateful for that.

I can't wait for what you have in store.

I did enjoy it, very much.

Then I went back and read the whole story from the beginning and enjoyed it again.
