Season 1
Sara (leaning out a door and waving a roll of duct tape): Hey, Grissom! Could you come tape me up?
Grissom (in a soft aside to Catherine): I love my work!
Catherine (admiring G's twinkling smile): It shows.

Season 4
Sara (to Grissom): Pin me!
He nods and closes on her...holding her wrists and then bracketing her waist with both hands as they act out the struggle of sexual predator and prey. He watches her intently...she avoids his eye until her final, breathy, "Yes!"

A few posts back I took on the topic of shipper imagination...but...the two scenes above require no imagination at all. Still...it isn't so much WHAT is said as some internal chemistry between the actors.

The question on my mind is: Is the viewer part of the chemical equation?

See? I am not what you would call a FAN of C.S.I. I like the show. It's clever, competently written and it is easy to care about the cast. But I usually watch it only when there is nothing else on.

I've seen maybe 6 shows per season. Based on that limited viewing, I think Nick and Catherine and Warrick are hot. I think Grissom is smart and (thanks to the Lady Heather episodes) kinky, but he doesn't light my fuse. He's a middle aged guy with bandy legs, a gut and lately he's sprouted a beard to hide his extra pounds. I think Sara is as smart as Grissom, his equal, but not much to look at, a 30 something tomboy with prominent front teeth. I don't mean to be cruel...lots of people may find them sexy...but I don't. I don't find the thought of older men and younger women appealing either.

Separately, Grissom and Sara do absolutely nothing for me. They do nothing for me when paired with the less imaginative prospective mates: Catherine and Nick. It is a chemical equation...we all have to get mixy. Almost every Sara/Grissom scene leaps off the screen at me. But until this last week, I hadn't reached my shipper combustion point.

The SpikeTV marathon opened my eyes! And ironically...the episode that sparked off a chain reaction of me ordering all 4 C.S.I. seasons on DVD...the eppy I consider one of the hottest Sara/Grissom episodes ever is....

...BUTTERFLIED

That's right...PIN ME! Talk about long reaching visual sub-text...this goes all the way back to that S1 scene in Grissom's apartment with all of those beautiful butterflies pinned to white sheets of display board. Think of Grissom's love for the insects and all they represent...fleeting beauty, youth, joy, metamorphisis...trapped, caged, smoked into submission and pinned.

I finally saw this episode this week and it sucked me so far into the S/G ship I am, at this moment, consumed by it. And the irony is...nobody online seemed to notice just how hot S/G were in this episode...instead, I see people pointing out how this means S/G is over because Grissom doesn't love Sara and values his job more than her.

Yes, Grissom does say that his work was more important to him than giving in to his feeling for Sara. But look at the context...when he says that...he is relating to and even envying a man who committed an unspeakable act of violence in the name of passion (he tells this monstrous man "you were braver than me"). This is Grissom finally...finally telling Sara WHY he can't let go...and it isn't because it would risk his job...it's because he is afraid of his own possessive nature...afraid he would destroy her and himself...afraid of the need to trap the butterfly and keep it under glass.

At the end...as Grissom lets his head sink...we see Sara reflected in the glass of the two way mirror. In this way we know (if there was ever any doubt) that she is the object of his passion and we know she heard his words. And the way these things work...Grissom would have to KNOW she was listening beyond the two-way glass.

I love you, Grissom was telling her...but my passion is dark and possessive and I am afraid of being this out of control. He sees her as innocent beauty...my hope is her battle with alcoholism will help him to see her as a person with her own levels of darkness. I think they could really spark this season...but I'm not one of those people who needs to see consummation here. C.S.I. isn't really a SHIP oriented show...a few hints now and then will do me...in fact...I would be happy to see some more suffering...as long as G/S turn to each other for comfort and deeper understanding I will be watching C.S.I.

...OR SKIP AHEAD TO SOME SLIGHTLY KINKY...WONDERFULLY EVOCATIVE AND EROTIC Sara/Grissom Fanfiction!

I highly recommend you start with BENEATH (the first story on the page)...and then back up and do UNDER (at the bottom of the page)

UNDER is the true start of the CASA CALIENTE storyline but it's not as compelling as BENEATH...so read chapter 2 first then go back and read them in order...pressing on through the first two chapters of CASA CALIENTE (story number three on the page).

Then go take a nice cold shower...'cause believe me...you will need one.
