Horses and Doctor Who

Look at me, posting two days in a row.
Soon, we shall have a new female Doctor and I shall surely have an opinion on her. So it is time to get back into the habit of blogging, I think.
Also, as happens every year, I have predictions for the Kentucky Derby. This year we have two sons of Scat Daddy coming from either side of the world to battle it out for horse supremacy. Maybe it is time for a European win in the Triple Crown races.
I started out the year favoring Bolt D'Oro, but he ran a very disappointing race his last time out. So, I wasn't high on him for the Santa Anita. I wasn't a huge fan of Justify either, because all we had was talk about him. Admittedly, it was Bob Baffert and Mike Smith doing some convincing talking. But I like to see a horse run around two turns before I buy into "Greatness."
So, I was on Mendelssohn another Scat Daddy son and one that sold for $3 million at the Keeneland sales. That's too much money. But he put up when he ran away with the UAE Derby a week ago. He romped home, in a time that beats Justify. So, he's still my horse. But the thing is...I'm not sure Justify has been tested, yet.
This could be a great duel...brother-against-brother. If Justify can hold up after such a race. If Mendelssohn ships healthy and likes Kentucky tracks. If the weather holds. But all of that is horse racing.

Date: 2018-04-22 02:40 am (UTC)I wish I could comment on the horse post but my take on horses is on the order of "horsy pretty but scary". (Uh yeah, I was frightened by a pony ride as a small child so... yeah)

He took me through a fence and into the cupboard. You have not really enjoyed horseback riding until you have found yourself pinned with a horse in a small cupboard. Let's just say I was VERY close to the ceiling, even though I was lying down on the horse.
Pretty, but scary...and also rather stubborn.

Date: 2018-04-22 04:03 am (UTC)Yes, that's exactly how I feel about horses. I must have been about 5 or 6 and I found myself on one of those ponies walking in a circle thing at the county fair - probably my idea, but who knows. Now I have dyspraxia (not that anyone had ever heard of that then)and my balance and core strength is a joke and I could not sit up straight on that darn pony. And that pony was Pretty Darn Annoyed by that. It keep snorting at me and tossing its head a little. And the not-at-sympathetic-I-don't-have-time-for-this handler came over and man-handled me upright with a stern reprimand about how I was making the horse mad by not sitting straight like I was doing it on purpose. After a couple more man-handles he ended up sulkily walking beside me with hand on my shoulder to keep me from sliding. At the end of the ride he plopped me on the ground with a sigh and a grumble. Now I prefer horses .... over there. Though I had to once swallow my nerves to take Junior over to ask a question of a county sheriff about her freakishly huge horse at a school event.

This made me relate to your horse handler, because whenever I get my haircut, I have to deal with frustration from the hairdresser, as my head keeps tipping sideways. He or she will suddenly bellow..."Keep your head straight...and your eyes closed." And I will think, "Those two things do not go together."
I agree horses should stay...over there and just look pretty. If that makes me a chauvinist, so be it.
