rabid1stSo, this year I'm watching Teen Wolf in real time. This means I will probably be jonesing for the next episode all the time. But, at least, we have a full season...does that mean we have a good, solid storyline?
Well, we still have the fun of Stiles. I LOLed at the red light scene. First, the way Lydia runs the light while Stiles balks. And then the beauty of stopping in the middle of the road as a solution to following the girls. Cracked me up when the girls stopped, too. And then, later, when his dad dragged him away from the laptop. Not as found of the fainting, but my shippy heart enjoyed Derek ordering him to stay for the burning of two bands onto Scott.
Second, referencing the later idea that there is something in the water...you betcha...it is obviously lots and lots of testosterone. There is no way any of those fresh men Lydia was ogling are "fourteen." This show has taken the concept of eye-candy to the level of a sugar coma. Normally, I'm not one to complain about men stripping to down for my entertainment. But I am not a fan of side-of-meat males, so most of the Alpha Pack leaves me cold. Scott is holding his own with Derek for me. He's bigger this year, but not so bulky that he makes me nauseated. <<--I believe it is a side effect from my time in Vet. School, seeing meat that looks to be stripped of skin is not something I find even a little sexy.
Which brings me to the Doublemint Boys...yuck, not even a little sexy to me. They are going to have to act their pants off...or back on...to impress me. But I did like that trick they do to become super-conjoined. And I like the animals going wacky, too. I hope Scott is mistaken and it isn't the alpha pack causing it. I want something more impressive, because I don't really find these press-on claw sides of meat that threatening, yet. For a few glorious minutes, I thought it might be Lydia, causing the animal mayhem. I want Lydia to have some hidden superpower, beyond her immunity. I think she would make a fab witch. The birds in the school were really cool. And I didn't mind the slight lift of global texting from Sherlock...because I would imagine that teacher would be a fan of Sherlock.
Wolf Press On Claws have a pedicure line...who knew? I find barefoot nurse a little ridiculous. I feel she would attract too much attention and be stopped before she could complete her mission. She should have slipped out of her slippers inside the door. It would have made us go, "HUH?" And it would have made more sense. I don't quite understand why Nurse Lupus sedated Isaac and then took him down to surgery? I figured she was going to make off with him. And then Big Bad Alpha grabs him from surgery. Seems to be a loop in the plot there. Did Big Bad show up later when they were taking out the mystery chick? I was on board with Blindman Boss as soon as he stuck his cane in the door.
The Argents have given up hunting? Weird. And how are they planning to stay out of things in a town crawling with things? Again, weird. Alison is already wanting to talk with Scott. Not to mention having symbols burned into her flesh.
Mostly, a promising beginning to the season, if a little underplayed. I didn't particularly enjoy the Season Teaser, but it, also, had some promise. I hope they have the complications of plot to make 23 interesting episodes. Not much has me intrigued, yet. Except, it looks like the wolves have some other superpowers. So that might be interesting. Scott levitating in the new credits is rather promising. And...I expect Stiles is going to learn some more mumbo jumbo from the Vet. I would like he and Lydia to both be in training for that sort of thing...given Lydia's spell last year to raise Peter, I feel she is a natural.

Date: 2013-06-05 02:34 am (UTC)I'm all for a bit of male ogling, but I agree that it was a bit over the top in the first episode. The alphas don't do it for me in the slightest. Then again, I was never much into whatshername's skanky ho werewolf transformation either. Tyler H. is a little bit too pretty for me, but also just not perfect enough to be somewhat attractive. Plus he has the most gorgeous smile (not that he gets to use it as Derek all that much!). Tyler P. is more my speed, though, really, it's Dylan who floats my boat. And the fact that I could be his mother is only *slightly* pervy, right? Ugh. I'm getting oooooooold! LOL Also, the kid who plays Issac is rather adorable, too.
The TW writers have been known to surprise us, so I wouldn't put it past them for the animal craziness to not necessarily be related to the alphas. Most shows wouldn't have the imagination, but I can see this being a red herring and caused by something else entirely. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the extra alpha powers - I've got to see how they get used a few more times before I can decide if it's cool or unnecessary.
I could see the Argents giving up on hunting after everything that happened last season. Mom's dead, Grandpa was crazy (and possibly still alive..??), and everything just got really ugly for them. I can see how Alison and her dad would want a shot at a "normal" life after that. Though how they expected to be able to do that in a town rife with werewolves and other supernatural insanity, I have no idea.
I keep feeling like there is still more going on with Lydia. Her connection with Peter was never a good enough explanation to me for everything that happened to her. I would actually not be surprised if it turned out that the animal thing had something to do with her. I just hope they don't try to fake us out in that direction, since they already did that with the Lydia-is-the-Kanima thing last season.
I don't really have any strong shippy feelings in any direction...though I'd love to see Scott's mom and Stiles' dad get together. I think they'd be rather adorable. :)

Date: 2013-06-05 04:07 am (UTC)I agree that Tyler/Derek is way too pretty, but he has a body type that is a bit lighter on the muscle than the new boys in town. I do find the gratuitous male flesh to be more funny than stimulating, though, like you say, I'm old enough to be the mom on this show...so I suppose it is okay to giggle over the flesh parade. Dylan is all kinds of hotness, I agree. Though, again, he's not really doing much for me. I think we need at least one hot older guy in this mix. Is that the blind alpha? As you say, too soon to tell. Allison's dad has always left me cold.
You are right, it is more likely that something beyond the alphas is going on than not. This is a show that likes to take sharp turns...which is what I love about it. I wouldn't put it past them to have a very good reason for the weird surgery blip that happened after Isaac woke up with Miss Wolf Feet 2013. And I think we have so much more to uncover about Stiles and Lydia and even Scott and Derek. I'm pretty sure the Peter connection with Lydia was more of a side-effect of whatever is going on with her than with his bite...but...they are going deeper into the idea of telepathic communication through claws or bites...like what we saw with Jackson last year.
I am right there with you loving Stiles. That reaction he had to "ephemeral" would have been enough for me. But I really did LOL at the stopping in the middle of the street, business after "The light is red." GAH!
