Not only are Octopi super intelligent, with multiple hearts and a respiratory bypass, they are also escape artists. Though, I think this one had some cooperation from the humans.

You can see how Time Lords might be descended from similar beasties, right? Have you ever seen the one they call a mimic? It disguises itself to look like other creatures. Adaptomorphic, as the Doctor calls it.

I watched a documentary some time back that included some footage of a mimic. Fascinating creatures!

I totally can buy into that thought considering it's been suggested that when/if humans die off, the octopus will inherit the planet.
