Doctor Who Theory
Nov. 29th, 2012 11:38 pmYes! You read that correctly. I have a Doctor Who theory. And it involves the new companion and Moff's attempts to play with time and space, as he does.
I have seen the first half of NewWho S7 and ads for the Christmas special...so I will pop under the cut for more...
As we know Jenna Coleman was in episode 1 of S7, playing Oswin Oswald. And she will be back in the Christmas Special, playing an imperiled Victorian girl. Then, presumably the Doctor will take her onto the TARDIS. Only, I think instead, she will die. And return again, as someone else in the next episode. At that point, the Doctor will probably take her with him, wondering what the hell is going on, and we will be one step ahead of him, since we know about Oswald. What if some girl is being duplicated throughout time? And that girl is the new companion? Is that timey-wimey enough for you? Or Moff?
In other news, even though it is totally wrong, I was thrilled to read that Dexter and his sister are having sparks. I felt that would eventually happen when I saw the very first episode of that show...so I'm vindicated. For a time, I thought my feelings were only because the stars were knocking boots, but no...it was there in the subtext all along, I think.

Everything about him, from the fez to the arm waving hysteria to the Loony Tunes TARDIS. And, for me, despite all of the bad acting and horrible costumes, the Doctor was never a joke. He was always magnificent and important, not a cartoon God, at all, but a wise and helpful alien person.

Date: 2012-12-03 07:26 pm (UTC)I can watch a Ten episode and see traces of his previous selve's with David Tennant's performance, so in my head he is the same man. But I can't take Eleven seriously as a Doctor. The man just plain annoys me in the eye-rolley kids tv sense, rather than being smug or obnoxious as a character sense.
In a way it makes it easier to separate the show in my head because that man is not my Doctor in any sense of the word. As depressing as that is to admit. And because he just seems like clueless child (with a very selective memory) I can't reconcile his general persona with Moffat's super serious, uber-long storylines and general how-fantastic-am-I-ness of the previous years. (And that's not even including the gaping plot holes)
My personal head!canon (and the only way I can deal with JE) is that when Ten basically exploded, his conscientiousness, and all things Doctor-ish went back into TenToo's body, which sort of explains the bow-tie wearing blank slate that was left behind...
Not that I've given this much thought at all. *g*

Date: 2012-12-03 07:46 pm (UTC)Because that is exactly what happens in it. The explosion was the TARDIS "archiving" Ten. Do you remember how Time Lords are supposed to be "archived" to the Matrix at the end of their regeneration? We learned about this in one or two of the Old School episodes, but it also ties in with the "pocket watch" idea from Human Nature and Utopia. It was what I was talking about before JE with all of the Pony talk...that Ten could be archived. And, well, I've decided, in my head that is exactly what happened.
So, Eleven, IS a child version of the Doctor in a grown up body, being sheltered in his magic universes until he's ready to be the REAL Doctor again. Check it out!
We are of one mind.

Date: 2012-12-03 07:54 pm (UTC)Looking forward to the read. It's usually only my smuttier thoughts that make it into fanfic! It's nice to have proof that I'm not paddling in the Gutter ALL of the time. LOL

Date: 2012-12-03 08:16 pm (UTC)Hee!
Not only do you have fic, you have video, as I said in the other comment I just sent you. Hope you enjoy.
Animal, the one where Ten2 is Ten all along was actually based on a short fix-it fic by someone else, that fit in very well with our ideas, but I figured I should change it up a bit, and also explain how it all happened. So, my fic is based on the first little video idea, because that's only fair.
The Pony we speak of is..."a pony for Christmas instead of socks"...a hope, I am ashamed to say, I kept alive for people after JE. We hoped that RTD would deliver on Rose/Ten together for her lifetime in End of Time, which was our "Pony" but...instead, we did get socks! Le Sigh!

It is going to be more about Ten/Rose than the basic theory, but that is the one...as you will see in this part...
My friend Monkeybatz did a marvelous Pony ending for me back in the day...

And then, she did the vid I play everyday before I write...Animal...which was based on a very simple idea of Ten 2 always being Ten...which works, too. But isn't what I'm doing for my story...because I didn't want to retread all of the JE stuff again.
Same idea though...that Ten was archived into the body the TARDIS prepared for him.
Animal is a great vid...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAj1BO6yocY&feature=share&list=UUKXCEJF_gKqXf7YG48a4Eiw

Date: 2012-12-03 08:14 pm (UTC)Unfortunately I have the patience of a 2 year old (and therefore a no WIP rule) but I'm really looking forward to the read. I suppose the one good thing about it is I can flail and squee and lose myself all in one go at the end *g*

Date: 2012-12-01 08:43 pm (UTC)This is what I'm doing with Idle & Blessed. I am taking advantage of the divergent points left for me by Moff and RTD and creating an AU where there are fields full of ponies. I hope I can get this next chapter up this coming week for you all.
I must focus, without my WriSoMiFu challenges now.

Date: 2012-12-27 02:19 am (UTC)I did enjoy Clara and I did think Jenna and Matt had real chemistry. Matt was, once again, less annoying than he's been in the past. I think I like his S7 Doctor best. Even the twee stuff wasn't as appalling as it usually is. Did Moff write this one? It was far less ham-handed than most of his stuff.
I liked the return of the Silurian and her wife. I also really enjoyed Mr. Potato Head. Many of his blunders were obvious, like forgetting the gauntlets, but some of them were also funny.

Date: 2012-12-27 03:43 am (UTC)I also don't like being rushed to the altar, but this felt less forced than anything with River (Ten or Eleven). Speaking of, I don't think she'd take kindly to Clara snogging her husband. Wonder if that's ever going to be a thing, or if Alex has been retired with the Ponds.
How soon do we get more Who? March?
Just passing through

Date: 2013-02-07 01:32 am (UTC)Sadly, I don't talk about Doctor Who as much anymore, because I have lost interest in it. And that after being an Old School Fan and mostly obsessed with the Doctor for my entire life. Thanks for that, Moff.
But, addressing your comment...I feel that we writers have schtick, if truth be told. Moff's ideal companion is some super-chick, better, stronger, faster, smarter, sexier, prettier, etc. He feels that otherwise the Doctor wouldn't care about her. Basically, he views the Doctor as an adolescent human male, like someone with Peter Pan syndrome. And we see that constantly reflected in Moff's work. RTD tended to see the Doctor as a tragic, lonely figure, searching for his equal in a universe where there were no equals, wanting someone to love. And we see that reflected in his work.
I tend to see the Doctor as quite alien and beneficent and I believe you can see that reflected in my work.
RTD's genius was that he came up with the idea of the Doctor falling in love with a companion. It was new and different and many of us came to love it, because he handled it very deftly with Rose. However, after we lost Rose, we see RTD trying to come up with other variations on Doctor/Love Story. He doesn't/can't move on from his schtick.
And, sadly, we see Moff copying RTD in this same dreary pattern, without having the same passion for the original concept. Moff's Doctor doesn't want someone to love, he wants to avoid responsibility. He runs away from it. Hence, those very sad River Song moments, which would never happen with MY Doctor, who doesn't care how old someone is..because he's an alien and very beneficent.
Moff is enamored with time and how pliable it is. He returns to this well over and over again, and he tells a good story about that. But...yeah...I'm sort of done hearing him tell me that story, because he only does cartoon characters in it. That is the main distinction, I think, between Moff and RTD, RTD took lots of care with even his minor characters, so that when they died or cried, loved or lost, we felt sympathy for them. It is hard to feel sympathy for Moff's characters. And, it is hard to be entertained by his same old "time is pliable" point of view, because...well...we already know that. Tell us something we don't know, Moff, I say!
