Well, I hate to mention this because I fall a long way outside the acceptable demographic for this show, but I've gone crazy over Teen Wolf. I love it. And I'm thrilled to learn that they have been renewed for a 24 episode long Season Three. I am pulling for the dream team ship of Derek and Lydia. There is no evidence whatsoever for this ship, but I recently saw a couple of vids that woke the latent shipper in me and now I am all about Derek/Lydia...except I don't want it to be called Lyreck. But what can you do? Derdia is no better and then is no hope at all that, just this once, we could sidestep smooshing the names together like we are toddlers, is there?
Anyway, I am recommending Teen Wolf to those of you who love the cult television with snarky teenagers. I think one of the things I truly enjoy about this show is that it isn't as uber-cute as Buffy or as hipster as the CW teen stuff. These kids often act like kids. I particularly love the Stiles and Scott relationship. Not as a shipper, but just as smart kid and his goofy friend. Scott is a nimrod from time to time, more believable in his lack of cool than Buffy ever was. And Stiles is nerdy and remarkably brave and, yet, manages to still be believable as a teenager who let's his dad down. That's the thing about these kids, I believe they are teenagers, rather than glittery Muppets. They have angst, and lots of it, but they also have layers of hope and stupidity and just plain foolhardiness. And there are some interested adults as well as some obvious caricatures, like the coach.

Date: 2012-08-14 11:54 pm (UTC)Melissa in episode one snagged me in her car-turned-sex talk with Scott. Nowhere near a perfect mom or a caricature. The Sheriff obviously loves Stiles but is hurt, confused and disappointed by him and that BOTHERS Stiles.
Derek is supposed to be an adult but is so obviously broken and lost, partly by his guilt over his relationship with Kate leading to his family's deaths. I'm so intrigued by what they're going to do with Peter. Is he bad? Good? Will he, can he be a beta to his nephew?
As always I love the bad boy the most, ie Peter. *g*
Lydia has changed by all she's gone through, kind of like Cordy, but in somewhat different ways. While I can see her with Derek, mostly the evil part of me likes her with Peter. Also, I'm a huge Derek/Stiles shipper.
Lots of good fanfic out there--I'm basically mainlining it. *g*
I need icons...

Date: 2012-08-15 12:12 am (UTC)Though my SO says that everyone on the show is chiseled perfection. And he's right about that, I guess, but there is so much every day dysfunction that I don't notice the hotness that much. In other teen shows it always seems that the characters are cut out of magazines and danced around by the writers. In this show, everyone is likable on some level and complex. I especially love how I hate Jackson and, yet, feel so very sorry for him. And I agree with you that Melissa's sex/car talk was great. Also, the Sheriff being so hurt by his son's "misconduct" is perfect, you can feel him wondering if his wife would handle things better than he does. That tired resignation he showed was wonderful. I even feel for the bitchy/scary Argent mom as she tries to stop her daughter from becoming polluted by Scott's evil. I can see how a certain type of mother wouldn't take that. "There were pencils being sharpened." HA!

Date: 2012-08-15 08:59 am (UTC)BEWARE! HERE BE SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST SEASON FINALE! LOOK AWAY IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET.
Yep, I totally love Teen Wolf. I definitely had no expectations when I tuned in for the first episode, but was quickly hooked. Stiles is SO my favorite. I love him utterly. (my second favorite? The lacrosse coach - he just kills me) Scott is kind of doofy (though good-looking), but always wants to do the right thing. I'm kinda meh on Alison, as well as the Scott/Alison relationship. I think Lydia is way more interesting. Derek has grown on me a lot this season (though I definitely don't see the Derek/Lydia thing! LOL). Love both Melissa McCall and Stiles' dad (whose name I don't remember...if we've even learned what it is!). Peter is a freakin psycho, though he did make me laugh a few times at the end of this season (the scene where he and Derek are looking at the Kanima information on the laptop just killed me).
Everybody is very real. They make mistakes and fail classes and try to fit in with the "cool" kids...and all that stuff that teenagers actually do. And the parents are neither perfect nor completely incompetent...they love their kids and are obviously trying to do the best job they can.
I can't wait for the full-season! I hope we get to learn more about the vet and exactly what his role is in relation to the werewolves. I know he said "advisor", but what the heck does that mean? Also, now that the most extreme of the hunters are all dead (we think - we never did see Gerard's body; I'm wondering if he didn't turn into a Kanima like Jackson did), maybe the Argents will actually work *with* Scott and his crew. It seems to me that there are both good and bad werewolves, just like humans. Daddy Argent (again, don't remember the name!) obviously has started to realize this...I just hope it holds into next season and he doesn't go back to the whole knee-jerk "werewolves must be killed" thing.
Anyway, I haven't gone the fandom route at all (I'm afeared of the teenyboppers), but I'm still very much enjoying the series.

Date: 2012-08-16 03:07 am (UTC)Nobody sees the Derek/Lydia thing until they see it. HEE! It never dawned on me at all, until I saw a freaking great vid that used totally separate footage. I think the appeal of it for me is that Lydia could definitely hold her own against Derek. And, also, it would cause so many tumultuous emotions in so many circles. Jackson would be jealous. Stiles would be jealous and we wouldn't sure if he was jealous of Derek or Lydia. Peter would have worries, too. As would Allison.
It just has so many ramifications it is like they must do it. Rather like Spike and Buffy had to happen, because the story potential was so great. Also, even though we had lots of teenage heart-throb moments in the finale for Jackson and Lydia, we do know that Lydia said she'd never felt that "can't wait to see him" sort of love. I think it would be interesting for her to be torn between loyalty to Jackson, who needs her and a torrid temptation like Derek.
I do find the whole show refreshing for the real characters. As you say, even the parents are borderline cool, but not in a smarmy, CW way. As for Gerard, we have to figure he will be back. I'm more interested in what is going on with Scott's boss, too. I love when he's asked, "What are you?" And he says, "I'm a veterinarian." That's a great line.
Oh, and yes, I don't feel Peter too much, especially when it comes to shipping him. But I, also, enjoyed the laptop. And his eyerolls over Derek's attempts to be Alpha. I do wonder how Jackson is going to deal with his new power. I can see him falling in with the Alpha pack. And counting up ours I feel we have three Alphas, which is almost a pack on our side. I do wonder how Alpha packs avoid infighting?
Happy that there are more of us out there who don't quite fit in the fandom.

Dydia!
Date: 2012-08-15 04:53 pm (UTC)Re: Dydia!
Date: 2012-08-16 03:23 am (UTC)Yes! You are my Dydia pusher. Hee! But I could even fic them I think. I very much enjoyed the two tiny scenes they had together in this Season. I think it is because they have a rather similar intensity.
Also, there is no ship that would rock the Teen Wolf team as much as that one. We would have the idea that despite her devotion to Jackson, Lydia has never felt the "can't wait to see him again" sort of love and she might find that with Derek.
Then Derek has so many issues with his past and now the Alpha pack and he believes he must be a lone wolf. Stiles would be heartbroken and that would certainly play into the Derek/Stiles fandom, because the question would come up about who it is that Stiles is most jealous of. And Jackson is sure to be possessive. And Peter might be possessive as well. It just reeks of a perfect set up for massive angst from all concerned. Jackson doesn't deserve Lydia, but I could see her struggling to remain loyal to him, given all he's been through this last season.
It works on so many levels. I hope the writers see it.

Date: 2012-08-15 10:58 pm (UTC)You know what, every time I see Teen Wolf, I immediately think Martin, Seventh Heaven. I'm the same with Bones and Buffy. I can't even watch Bones because it's like Angel is betraying Buffy. Weird, huh!
