In The News: Olympic Air Defense
Apr. 29th, 2012 01:31 pmI didn't know how to categorize this post. Was it something I learned, as I learned it? Or was it simply something very odd in the news?
I did a little research and went with odd. However, it could well be that this is something other countries have done as well and if so, I do want to learn more about it.
Britain is thinking about putting missiles on the roofs of upscale apartment complexes. These would be air defense missiles to defend the Olympics. Really? I mean, yes, I know that The Olympics have been targeted by terrorists in the past. People have been taken hostage and killed. But, air strikes? I do wonder about things like this. Is there a legitimate alert/threat that someone might, I don't know...hijack a plane headed for London and fly it into the Gymnastics arena? I don't want to be frightened of the sort of people who would think of something along these lines. Have we always need air defense of the Olympics? It seems like overkill to me. And it seems like the authorities, if they haven't got some concrete evidence of something, are just as creepy as the terrorists.

Date: 2012-05-08 02:50 pm (UTC)On the subject of H/W...I am still rather unspoiled. Though I did take a peek at the main page of finale pics. I am so cynical now about the PTB's jerking my chain that all I could think was "I see dead people." Naturally, I didn't feel I should join in the celebration with that attitude. But boy will you see me blowing my kazoo and swilling champagne if we do have the uplifting H/W moment that I've always felt we should have at the end.
