Okay, I'm a treehugger, I admit it. And I know not everyone cares about that. People want oil. People want big hummer cars. People want high paying oil-based jobs. People want the lights on. And so a few barn owls die, right?

But all of that is beside the point once you see the rape of mother earth that is happening in Canada's tar sands. We are talking about devastation that can be seen from space. We are talking about virgin forest laid bare and poisoned for generations to come.

Take a good hard look at this image...

That used to be a forest...with animals and birds and soft breezes. Now the very ground is poison and so is all of that once fresh water. More fresh water used in one year than is used by the entire city of Calgary. You think you need oil, let me tell you that you really need water. And it costs 3 times as much damage to the ozone to extract one barrel of this oil.

Read the article...http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/03/canadian-oil-sands/kunzig-text

And then, vote to stop the Keystone Pipeline, because the oil from that pipeline isn't going to America, it is going into the World Bank for Texaco. So, this is nothing but a corporate deal by Congress.

And yes, people will have jobs, for a time, but at what a cost! Seriously! How can anyone live with being a party to this? It makes me want to turn off all of my lights and huddle in a corner in shame.

Actually, XL may cause job losses.

According to this independent (i.e., not paid for by the XL supporters) study, the jobs created will be few and temporary, and may actually cause job losses.

Oh, thanks for that! I am not an indigenous person, but I certainly support their cause.

I'm not surprised one bit. Because the only jobs I can see this creating would be for labor to build it, and then, the few additional patrol jobs. And, of course, all oil jobs should be temporary at this point, because we need to get off of oil. What I wonder about is creating a world where buildings (and cars) provide their own energy and so we do not need a top down grid anymore.

Yes, it is. And when you think that what used to be here were trees that cleared this crap out of our air and helped purify our drinking water, it is an abomination. Also, when you think that those little dots on the roads are huge earth movers, as big as your house, you realize the extent of the damage done.

Amen! It really does make me sick to my stomach when I see their ads on HULU or TV.
