An octopus decides to go for a stroll and pick up a crab dinner. So...now we know what the aliens could look like. I was afraid that they would have eight arms. But better shellfish than arachnids.

And here is a link to an article about the Octopus intellect.

I LOVE octopi! (Platonically.) I think that they are amazing.

I've actually seen one take itself out of the water (at a tidepool), and I've remember watching a documentaries of them unscrewing jars. And another one, Otto, put out the light each night in his enclosure.

That's why I shudder at the Iron Chef promos and beginnings that show the humans pulling the 'pi from the water to hack up into bits. Makes me ill and ashamed.

And is it me, or did that 'pus put anyone else in mind of an Ood?

I LOVE Otto! He's my kind of prankster. I especially enjoyed how he redecorated his tank to suit himself. In the article I linked there is a bit about an octopus choosing just the right stones to decorate the front of her den. So cool.

And, yes, I did think of the Ood. Who no doubt had ancient octopi ancestors. I, also, thought of Disheveled and my version of Time Lord history. Because I love the alien mind of the octopuses.

Cephalopods are so cool!

That was almost like a warning. "Get off my lawn, or YOU'RE NEXT."

Or mother nature saying, "I've decided to go another way, humans. Fair warning!"

There's a whole market of hentai consumers that will one day welcome our tentacle-bearing overlords with open... arms.

Yes! Arms!

Hee! Well, I can say that while I personally wouldn't go there, I can see how octopi might appeal to some...hentai consumers. In my book, once you go orchid-anemone you never go back.

I love this video. It's incredibly fascinating...how does it stay out of water for that long??? Octopi are smart little buggers. And I agree, much better this than spiders. *nods*

If you get a chance to read the article, I highly recommend it. I had no idea that Octopi were so smart and inventive. And I think they are evolving to walk overland, which should be alarming us, but instead we find it amazing. HEE! Humans! s

Anyway, it is interesting also that Octopi are a completely alien type of intelligence, since we have so few common ancestors. But they still seem to like us, even when we put them in little tanks and run experiments on them, some of them like us.

I just read the article and it was AMAZING. I knew they were smart, but I had no idea just *how* smart. That a creature so different from us could develop intelligence, personality and a need for play is just astounding. There's a profound message there. Plus it's just damn cool. :)

I know, that article is great. And I am now in love with octopus videos. There is one of an octopus opening a jar. And another that shows one of them squeezing through a pipe from one tank to another. And now that I know that being smooth and white means you are a happy octopus, I was able to tell when both of those octopus signaled their happiness at completing their tasks. It was so cool.
