I LOVE JOHN & MARLENA

I just wanted to say that! I mean I think the current Days plot is completely insane and all too often horridly written...but it is entertaining in a cheap, reality TV kind of way. I find I want to look away and yet I keep watching. However, John and Marlena...they sizzle in the middle of this ridiculous situation. "I love you, baby!" he says and they do the predatory circling. He is a killer...she is a killer...and they are just so very HOT together!

All those young studs and ingenues are cast into the shade.

I had to give up soap operas when I became involved with online fandom--just no time--but I watched Days all the way back in the late '70s through mid '90s and my mom still watches it. The chemistry between John (Roman, Forrest, priest guy, whatever he's going by these days) and Marlena is incredible and always has been.

I just can't believe they're killing off so much of the cast!

...because they already did Maggie and Roman...and Marlena and John are in definite trouble...so all of the old couples are history, now. And you have to admire the chutzpah...even as you wonder WTF? They are probably losing long-time viewers with this move...but that was the gamble they took...and I am proud of them for having the nerve.

When you think about it coldly it is kind of special to do the hatchett work like this...all of these forgotten, dusty old actors are getting a brief chance to shine again and a wonderful retrospective as they exit. I think despite the many holes in the plot it has paid off for them in new and returning viewership. I do hope though that somehow...someway Drake and Deidre can continue to work together. Because...yes...they have always had that SPARK. What is amazing to me is after all these years...they can find the freshness they found this week...as, for the first time, John confronted Marlena with suspicion. Lovely!

DOOL is the wackiest soap opera out there. When Marlena was possessed by the devil, I gave up on ever taking it seriously again. lol

But apparently all these murders are bringing in the ratings. It's #1 with the 18-49 year olds.

...because really...you just don't suspect your wife of being a serial killer. Especially, if she is the humanitarian of the community. This is how I figured out quite early that the killer WAS Marlena...because obviously people were behaving like brain damaged loons and continuing to confront the killer...but I could NOT convince anyone else in the fandom of Marlena's guilt until Tony started grandstanding...and really...at THAT point we were SUPPOSED to notice Marlena was acting strangely.

I mean...I rant at the individual silliness of characters and the over-the-top situations and dialogue...but the overall plot arc and Diedre and Drake in the plot has been well done, I think.

Also...oddly...though I do not support the idea of the cliche of "IT WAS ALL A DREAM"...Marlena is obviously having longer episodes of schism...like her imaginary slaughter of John, this week. I have to wonder if we are getting a partially imagined storyline of somekind. On the other hand...I only think that because I don't want Marlena and John to end. Because I think almost every actor removed so far was DEADWOOD. And really...I also think it would be more interesting to have Marlena MAD and John not be able to resist her. Think of the havoc she could cause breaking out of the mental hospital...or coming back to town all medicated and contrite.
