I don't know who is to blame for this particular headline...be it Digital Spy turning things on their head or Stephen Moffatt trying to gain some sympathy. I do not doubt there is some hate mail from David Tennant fans, I do not doubt that this hate mail might come from a "lady." But this is definitely a load of balderdash that the only people who complain about Moff are women who love David Tennant. I simply cannot believe Moff doesn't get "hate mail" from people who hate his writing. Perhaps he's sheltered from that by caring staff or by the blocking effects of his own ego.

The issue, Moff, isn't David Tennant leaving. It was past time for him to go. So, while I definitely miss him, I can't say that I think he would make this show much better. It is how he left the character when he left, which is RTD's fault, that is problematic. And it is how you have chosen to replace him with an actor not quite up to the job and to write stories that are shallow and rather pointless. And I don't believe you fail to get the emails that criticize Matt and yourself. Or do you put them all down to "a lady David Tennant fan."

Lol! I thought the same when I read that news.
It just sounds like a good excuse: Oh god, some people don't like my stories! It must be Tennant's fangirls!
Riiigggghhhttt!
As far as I'm concerned, I am a Tennant fangirl but also an Eccleston/Baker (both Tom & Colin)/Mcgann/McCoy/Davidson/SMITH fangirl... and I don't like Moffat :D
(But I won't send him hate!mail... LOL)

Funny how this post seems to coincide with a very strange dream I had last night where it was announced Christopher Eccleston wold be reprising his role as the Ninth Doctor and they were going to basically re-start the series.

But seriously, Moff needs to realize he hasn't done the series any favours with his choice of actor and plot lines. I truly miss the depth and even the sheer crack of RTD's writing, but I gave Moff a chance and he basically blew it for me.

I think Moffat is definitely lacking in the personal charisma that RTD had in spades. Even when fandom was unhappy with Uncle Rusty, we wanted to see him succeed because we all genuinely liked and respected him (at least in my little corner of the world). Whereas Moffat is sometimes respected, sometimes not, but I can't find anyone who actually LIKES Himself.

And you know I cannot stand the skindeepness of his writing. Everything services plot at the expense of forgettable characters. Did series 5 hold together in retrospect? Well, kind of. But the numbers tell that increasingly, people didn't care to see all the shallow nonsense wrapped up in tinsel at the end. Look at shallow summer blockbusters with big fx--they at least make an attempt to make us care about the characters. Otherwise, the jeopardy doesn't feel real and the whole thing falls flatter than Lady Cassandra. Bah.

"just when I was cutting the guy some slack, he has to open up his big mouth."

I think a lot of my issues with Moffat would be solved if he could keep his mouth shut.

I didn't click the link. I expect it would just irritate me even more.

That is certainly true. If he would stop going on about how fantastic his show is...then we might find it wasn't horrid. But as it stands, he sets the bar way too high for the product he churns out on an average week.

I think if he hadn't been so snarky about Rose, even though I like to believe he was joking about her, a lot of people wouldn't be so hard on him. And if he is getting Tennant Fangirl hate mail, maybe its caused by all of the "Matt Smith is so much better than David Tennant" press that has been forced down our throats. Admittedly, I cannot lay that charge at Moff's feet, though. That has been the publicity machine...possibly directed by the BBC...but still...not directly Moff. I do think Moff would have happily taken David on this mystical journey into a false reality he created.

Thanks for sharing that. And you can easily see what I mean just with that video. The Doctor and Rose were so very much in love. They didn't need sexual tension to work. They didn't need anything but one another. And they needed their version of a happy ending.

I am so very glad that there was no 10.5 in that vid. Though I didn't want to say that to rashaka who apparently was missing him. He has no place in the story for me. For me, the Doctor is dead now...sadly...replaced by two half-men.

And that could actually be a compelling story -- if they knew they were telling it.

Well...I know I'm telling it. Or rather, I'm not going to tell it after all. But I hope to frame it as such anyway.
