ABOUT THE ANGEL FINALE

And well...wasn't that special?

My jury is out about this episode...way out. I liked the Wes event in the library. Liked Lilah and Wes too. Liked the Gunn thing best of all. The big cat reminded me of Spike. And Webbs being there. My Alternative Angel theory takes a powder...maybe...

Certainly the folks at Wolfram and Hart are playing fast and loose with their history. And now Angel is in league with the devil...so much for his shanshu THIS year. Not that I am surprised by that...and it was a pretty big price he demanded for his cooperation.

What concerns me is how he is now on the payroll and off to give Buffy a bauble. Hmmm....it just doesn't seem like a really good idea to me for Buffy to save the world with the help of Wolfram and Hart. Nor was I too fond of the whole taking the ride thing after he tossed the bauble aside...seems like W&H is REALLY interested in Buffy getting said bauble.

Now, I am interested in Next Season...as I knew I would be...but I am still pretty sure Angel is going to tank. Renewal was a good idea because Buffy is ending and we need our fix...hanging Angel's future on a show that may end very badly...not a good idea at all.

Have to say Connor was stitched up a little too handily and I am kind of hoping it won't last even though it does put a damper on the IMAGINARY HAPPYLAND BUFFY ENDING some have predicted. I admit I cried and felt like it was what Connor deserved...and so...I am led straight back to my idea of what Buffy deserves. I always compare her to Connor...and really...I think she too deserves a peaceful, normal life.

Anyway, next Season...I might watch...it all depends on how Buffy ends in a couple weeks. This could be fun...playing with our minds...or it could be the biggest flushing of talent since the X-Files tried to go on without Mulder. We will see.

definately pensive...

Interesting Ratings Stats...If you DON'T WATCH ANGEL but PLAN TO START...

According to the newest Entertainment Weekly...Angel had a 16% drop in viewership over LAST year. While Buffy had a 17% drop. They ranked the same with 18-49 year olds...tying for 124th place.

But what I found REALLY interesting was that Birds of Prey ranked 111th in the same age group. And finished up over all with 4.2 Million Viewers to Angel's 3.7 Million. And yet the WB cancelled Birds of Prey. Interesting!

From the numbers it does look like adding James will add viewers...Buffy had 3.8 Million viewers...but you can't say those .1 Million were JAMES fans...maybe they liked SARAH. Again I say...I doubt JM will save the show NEXT year. Unless they get SERIOUS critical acclaim.

wondering if we might add more...like 1.2 Million viewers...I have always watched BOTH shows. How many of you DIDN'T watch Angel but WILL NOW?

AFTER END OF DAYS

Okay...let me say...the Angel/Buffy kiss...CLEARLY this is Faith and Spike in the basement. I saw this coming from WRECKED people. This is the moment...the BUFFY "Oh, God, WHAT HAVE I DONE?" Moment. Where she finally works out that the scary, mixed up feelings she has been having for the last three years are LOVE and the thing she had with Angel was and is a DREAM. This is Buffy's wake up call (It is like Spike's attempted rape in Entropy...this is HER moment when she feels the pain she is causing him and KNOWS for sure she has to change). [2/27/04-okay, sadly I turned out to be DEAD wrong about this...still think it is what is killing AtS, too...that Joss ended with his cliche despite the fact that his storyline really didn't support it.]

I am off to right a little interpretive dance fic for this scene so that everyone can remain faithful. but first I came here to say: This isn't about ANGEL...he is off to his own show next year...unfortunately SO is Spike...and well...I don't see Spike going there if INDEEDY it was all over between he and Buffy.

I am upset because it is happening NOW and I won't get to see it played out on the screen by SMG. I'm upset because JW will leave us in the lurch at the end. And that could well end his franchise.

I, as you all know by now, have been upset about THAT since STORYTELLER. And I have been upset about JW's decision to jerk us along for another FULL season with the very real possibility of NO on screen B/S consumation EVER on the horizon.

Do I think that some day B/S will reunite? You bet I do!!! On the big screen preferably...after NEXT YEAR'S ANGEL. Warner Bros. has a good relationship with Sarah...so fingers crossed. But if the ratings improve enough they could try to do a Spike series instead...and that would be HORRID...because it would fail and the character would never be seen again....and that will also kill the momentum of James Marsters acting career...and eventually any chance of a real Buffy reunion.

The momentum may die this year anyway...but I can see the milking of Spike marketabilty as a way to put Angel into syndication. And if they can do a movie in the next 3 years...with Angel and SMG...and JAMES...they might do something extra-special. Let's hope this works and JM doesn't need a corset and hair plugs like William Shatner by the time we get around to making a movie.

Frankly, this Spike on Angel thing...should and WILL make all fans of the series ill if they don't handle it VERY, VERY well...JW is treading on shakey grounds. He can do it...we know he has the talent...if he isn't too wrapped up in his own little workaholic world...but...BUT...he is showing signs of fading, desperate genius this year. He has been clinging to the past, fan pandering and, yes, stringing along things that brought him to the pinnacle in the vain hope that we will KEEP watching until he has another good idea. I hope with a little rest he can recoup and give us something wonderful NEXT year. But NEXT YEAR is all the wiggle room JW has.

This episode and the last one gave me buckets full of hope. Obviously, he is STILL all about B/S...I mean COME ON...who is the emotional impact of this episode committed to? Spike! Not Angel! Angel did what he always does...showed up...looked good...got the girl...

The ratings stats are very interesting when you note that the LAST eppy of AtS...the Joss Whedon penned one that did not surprise me very much...had a 3.7 rating. So this would indicate no change at all in the ratings...or since the FIRST SPIKE eppy had a 5.2...it would show a decided drop in them as the idea of Spuffy vanished into the woodwork and the writing twists became predictable. So, once again...I would ask all of you to back me on my Save The Spuffy drive...because Spuffy will save the Buffyverse.
