DAY ONE...

A show that should never have been canceled. There are a few of them, in my opinion. But everyone else is going to pick Firefly or Wonderfalls. Or they will say Buffy and be wrong.

I'm going to choose a show I only caught about four times and didn't even fangrrl very much...Moonlight. Yes, the vampire tale with Sophia Myles. Sophia did a very credible American accent, miles ahead of David Tennant's actually. And the show's lead, whose name escapes me, Alec something or other, was quite compelling. But beyond that, the internal mythology was just starting to get interesting when the show was cut loose. Fox has a bad habit of not allowing shows to grow an audience. This show was sent to the tv scrapheap too soon.

Another show, that I did watch...and fangrrl and felt more people should have watched was Jake 2.0. It too had just hit a strong stride when the plug was pulled on it. And it was a bit of a forerunner to Chuck, which thankfully has had more of an opportunity to gain a toehold in the ratings climb.

There you go...meme away!

I saw the opening episode of the Sophia Myles thing and it failed to grip, but I am willing to believe it got better.

I think the thing with this category is finding a show that I truly believe would have picked up steam if allowed more episodes. Not a show that I personally would have watched or recommended to friends. I think that for me, Keen Eddie, might have been the show that I felt needed more episodes. But even with 12...Keen Eddie managed to have a complete arc...which shows a measure of talent on the part of the writers. But I don't think that it would have gotten more viewers if it had stayed on the air.

Just as I think Firefly and Wonderfalls were doomed from the minute they were both conceived. They have loads of cult followers, true...and I would love for there to be more Firefly episodes in particular. But, I don't think either show was really going to become a ratings success if given more time. I do think that Moonlight could have pulled a core audience with a few more episodes and some aggressive marketing to the proper viewers.

I'd be very surprised if I didn't correctly guess what Day 26 is going to be... ;-)

Yes, I think you might have it correct.

And good to see you. I do hope you are as well as can be expected. I'm afraid I've been fighting with some issues and haven't been out and about in cyberspace as much as I would like.

I watched a couple episodes of Moonlight but it never really captured me, though maybe it just needed more time. You know CW is rerunning the series this summer yes?

I didn't know that. I think that it didn't capture a lot of people. It didn't capture me, particularly. And I don't really care to rewatch it. But I do think it was canceled too soon. I think it was a show with a lot of potential and that potential was squandered. Which is not quite the same thing as saying that it was a show that I am pining to rewatch...like say...Keen Eddie. There was another show that was canceled too soon. I should go mention Keen Eddie. I have rewatched those episodes several times over and enjoyed them a lot.

Fair enough. I was curious about it at first because of Jason Dohring and Alex O'Loughlin seemed to have a vocal fan base.

I've never seen Keen Eddie.

Keen Eddie probably wouldn't have found a greater audience either. Though I would love to have seen more episodes. It had the amazing Mark Valley and Sienna Miller in it. What else do you need? The idea of crazy American in England worked so well. But the show was just that few degrees off center that make it unlikely to work as series TV. That's the real trouble with shows like Firefly and Wonderfalls, too. The general public doesn't like going along with the concept of a show. Farscape was very lucky to have survived as long as it did...because the puppet concept is definitely a challenge to your average viewer.

Ah, yes, Alex O'Loughlin. Cutie patootie!

I agree with you. Moonlight was just starting to get it together and get interesting...and they yanked it. The X-Files days are loooong gone at Fox. :P

THAT was his name...Alex O'Laughlin...not Alex MacSomething. :snicker: He's going to be in the new Hawaii-Five O...which I think will do quite well. The thing is, yes, I think that Moonlight was canceled too soon, because I honestly believe it would have had a larger audience if given some growing room. This is sadly not true of Firefly or Wonderfalls or Pushing Daisies. Americans do not care for whimsical shows...yet another thing that Moff and Matt will have against them as they continue. Many Americans have taken a strong dislike to the new TARDIS...based on that whimsical factor, I believe.

Of course, there are also a lot of people who adore the kitschiness of it all. I'm just saying you are lose a certain percentage of viewers every time you do something a bit off center in a show. And some shows are very far off center, too far to ever be ratings successes.

Yeah, I chose Moonlight, too. CBS killed it way before its time, and wasn't very nice to it in the first place. It was stuck on Friday in the evil timeslot (8pm CST), and the writers' strike ruined the fanbase continuity. There was a big online debacle over the cancellation (with rumors that SyFy was gonna pick it up, or maybe FX or something like that) but it was not meant to be. *asigh*

They had lovely vampire effects...such striking transformations. Better than TrueBlood ones, with the Snickt!Fangs...which always reminds me of Wolverine's claws...
