Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny I just learned that we were supposed to post our dreams a day or two ago. Interestingly, thanks to my sleep disorder, I seldom reach a dream state (or recall that I've reached one) anymore. However, for the first time in months, I had a vivid dream which I did recall two nights ago. So, I guess the fates want me to share this dream with all of you.

It opened in a university library. No particular university. Just a stage setting. Fade in: Large University Library. I was there with my sister. The library had those open stacks and two story high windows. This was an important feature as major things were happening outside. First, I saw something in the distant sky. Just a flash of silver and as I watched it my sister and I were walking toward the exit. She was talking about something...but I was thinking..."That is NOT a bird. Look at that thing. It's massive." And suddenly, just as we reached the door, I said, "Pterodactyl." <<--Though I can't honestly be sure I had correctly identified the animal. It was a huge flying reptile with a triangular head full of very sharp teeth and it was planning on eating us.

I have no idea why the streets were so deserted. I felt as if it might have been a Sunday. There were only a few people in the library. We ran back toward them, shouting that they should get down and avoid the windows. The windows shattered and the beast was inside with us. We were ducking behind things, trying to scamper down corridors that it couldn't navigate. I was quite spry in my dream.

But we were fighting a losing battle...until...a space ship landed...and a bunch of pale, aristocratic and very toothy aliens took the beast in hand. It seems he was just a wayward pet. And the very toothy aliens were here to help us out...by way of apology for treating us like cattle back in the days of Pyramids and bloodletting. They were space-vampires. And they were in charge of us again. But they wanted to make it clear that they were not going to start feeding off of us again. They were just interested in getting the humans and our fair planet back into sterling health again. It seems we have been suffering from a lack of proper husbandry for the past few thousands years. Since I was there with my sister and their prehistoric pet, I was recruited to act as a local spokesperson. Just before I woke up I was in this cold, gulag type containment facility trying to arrange some undercover amatuer radio network to send information between pockets of humanity without alerting our apparently benign but extremely toothy overlords.

Basically...I was in a dream that I might sum up as Stargate meets Primeval with a little bit of Lifeforce meets V through in there.

Can I just say I'm glad I'm not the only one who has sci-fi dreams? I've been dreaming alien invasions since I was a kid!

Hmm, your dream has layers. And I don't trust those toothy 'friendly' aliens one little bit.

I'd say there's a bit of District 9 in there too :) I love these kinds of dreams. Too bad you can't make them to order!
