Merry Christmas! For my friends who celebrate Christmas. Season's Greetings. For my friends who don't celebrate Christmas. Also, Happy Doctor Who Day! For my friends who celebrate new Who.
In light of the busy day, I shall keep this pony post short and sweet. A new exit interview with David* asks some interesting questions, prompting David to give us this gem about the PONY!
When you're working with Billie (Piper), who'd had a pre-existing relationship with the other Doctor, how do you approach that as an actor, in terms of his feelings for her?
That could have been very tricky, because Billie would have every right to feel it was her patch. But mercifully, because Billie is so generous and so lovely, and such a great actress and wonderful human being, frankly, it was such a joy to work with her, and such a pleasure. Dramatically, that's what's going on between the characters, because she's having to rediscover this new man who's the same man she knew, and how she feels about that. But very quickly, I think we established that relationship that they had was as deep, and ran even deeper ultimately.
Yes, it runs very deep, indeed, Ten's love for Rose. And hers for him.
And before anyone bothers asking me if I don't imagine she would grow to be even MORE attached to Ten 2...they should read my LAST post. Rose did her level best, did the impossible, in fact, to return to Nine and after she saved him Nine BECAME Ten.
Ten did not become Ten 2. Rose knows that Ten is still out there somewhere, all alone and needing her.
May she come for him on New Year's Day. Or may he wise up and go to her. Either way works for me.

Date: 2009-12-25 06:05 pm (UTC)And yes, the Solstice is undeniable. Though...purists might question what there was to be happy about. But then...you could tell them that more sunshine is good...and they are probably just bitter because they have seasonal affective disorder.
That's the spirit!

Date: 2009-12-25 02:17 pm (UTC)As you say, this episode will be mostly dark despair and running about on the way to the cliffhanger. I hope the kids are too traumatized by it all.
Merry Christmas!

Date: 2009-12-25 01:41 pm (UTC)Well, truthfully...it will be several more days. I doubt we will have much in this one but dark portents of doom.
I do wonder if those are falling out of fashion given the relative silence of the press this week. Still, I must say I am excited for today's episode.

Date: 2009-12-25 11:39 am (UTC)And I'm totally with you there on the "ran even deeper ultimately" quote, as fodder for ponies as well for as speculation.
We won't know today, but we'll know in a week.
Merry Xmas! Happy Me'ReChaman!

Date: 2009-12-25 02:10 pm (UTC)And when I am reading this interview...it seems to me to call out for the pony...because...Ten does have that bloodlust and that pain that is so much a part of him...because he is the same man. I do think we might very well get a few flashbacks to the Time War. My hope is that THAT is where the Time Lords come into it all. There and no other spot. Because while I can understand them only wanting to do a little bit of the Dark Doctor...I think they shouldn't just slap a Time Lords come back bandaid on his pain. A lifetime with Rose Tyler...might help him since he really has been going on about that life for RTD's entire run.
I do want the Doctor to be mutable this time, fundamentally changed, yet still "the same man." And that is the way I look at Ten 2. He's the same man...same memories, same thought process...everything. But he's different because he's shed some of that bloodlust...that passion that was definitely below the surface with Nine, but has frankly built up to a cressendo in Ten.
I, honestly, think you could look at what happened with the Metacrisis as a way to avoid all of that unpleasentness with the Valeyard...if you sent Ten into the human body and let him go to Rose. You would be, essentially, dividing the passion...lust, intent love and rage and fear...could go to Rose...because Rose, let's face it, can handle him...and, in fact, really does make him better...sunnier as the interviewer points out. And without his overwhelming Time Lord powers (and responsibilities)...I think he would mellow a little.
Okay, I'm just rambling on now. Merry Xmas! to you, too.

Date: 2009-12-25 02:50 pm (UTC)I mean, we got the idea she'd begun work on that dimention cannon almost straight away after Doomsday. Why wouldn't she go back again? Otherwise she would feel she'd failed him in some way. He's alone. He's not safe.
Her love for him runs deeper than deep. There is nothing she wouldn't do for him.

Date: 2009-12-28 08:59 am (UTC)I know people want to reject the idea...but it was Rose begging him not to change...and he didn't. And it is Rose that he needs so badly...that Martha and Jack and Donna all know about her. And even Wilf...he knows that Rose is the one...he just hasn't quite put it together. But I hope he does...given that woman is appearing to him.
