• Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

• Update your journal with the answers to the questions

• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions (I'll also answer more, if asked)

1. How did you come by your LJ handle?

I have answered this one before...long ago. But, I'm sure a lot of people wonder. So, way back when computers first needed passwords, our geek guy went around asking us to come up with a personal ID to log in. He called me RAB because those are my initials and I signed off on all of his paperwork with them. He get to my computer set-up and asks, "RAB what do you want your ID to be?" Yes, it is that simple. After that, I went online and joined a community which I will talk about in the next question. When we switched proxy servers, some other person grabbed RABID as their log-in name. So, I said, "You know, I was Rabid1st." This is what happens when you are there in the stone-age of the computer revolution.

2. What was your first online fandom and are you still involved with them?
Interestingly enough, my first FANDOM was Doctor Who...and I'm still involved in that one, too. But my first ONLINE fandom was for The X-Files. I am only attached to the fringes of that one. I am still a fan of the show and stayed active in my little corner of the fandom until this last movie. But I must say...now...I've lost heart and don't find it as interesting. I recently let all of my X-Files VHS tapes go...so now...if I don't buy the DVD sets...I won't even have the episodes to rewatch.

3. Despite a love of time travel storylines, why don't you like the Outlander series? (which I just started reading)

I am actually NOT a lover of time travel storylines. Just as I am not a fan of vampires, even though I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And Lost Boys and Salem's Lot and Dracula. I like Doctor Who because it had a lot of potential for story development. I fell in love with the Doctor and, in the new incarnation, with Rose. Though Rose is the reason I've lost my love of the Doctor. He's now become a character with very limited possibilites...like Peter Pan...and so he loses a lot of his charm for me. I think that when any story becomes about the LORE of the story...it loses it's charm for me. This is why I don't like Vampire stories...they are usually working in an area that has been worked to death already...so that's boring.

4. If you met RTD, what would you say to him? First, I would tell him that I am a huge fan and I think he's very talented. Then, I would tell him that he took the Doctor to a place where we saw him as limited and small and that wasn't the way to go...and I am very sorry that he didn't see how to expand the character. I suppose I would wish him better luck next time. <<--assuming he WILL screw it up...which judging by Sarah Jane...and some recent spoilers...it seems he WILL.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Victoria, British Columbia. First, Canadian health care and politics, both reasonable. Second, it's a beautiful place. Third, I could go watch things being filmed and offer up scripts for shows filming in Vancouver...like Supernatural.

5a. Why haven't you commented on this week's Supernatural yet??!!! LOL Because I have had a very busy week. We had relatives in from out of state and we were going hither and yon and then I was exhausted by that...so...no time to watch Supernatural. I just did watch it. So, commentary is on the way. Glad that someone missed it.

Also, re: 4. Why have you lost faith in the pony? Email me if it's too spoilery for LJ.

Resistance is futile.

Like you I was depressed by SJA. First because Tennant was going through the motions very superficially and offering nothing new. Second it gave us a very negative view of marriage - that you can't marry and retain your individual identity.

But what bothered me most was the comment that the Trickster shows you the life you could have lived. Oh please, please, RTD, don't go there again. Once (Family of Blood) was quite enough - do it again and you mess up our memories of that great story and give us all a downer on Christmas Day as well.

Apparently Hamlet will be broadcast over here on Xmas Day, which leaves us with the possibility that the world's greatest tragedy with a stage full of dead bodies will leave us more uplifted than Doctor Who. Way to go, RTD.

2. Describe your current relationship with Joss Whedon...true love? bitter ex? chillin f**buddies? BBF?

3. And then for a change of pace...what's planned at church for the holiday season? Pagents? Choir practice?

4. I know you are trying to read 50 books by December 31...and time is running short...but put down Hop On Pop and answer me this: Is there a book that you would have liked to read but there was no way you could allow it to slow you down?

5. Since you are a sport's fan...what's the best game or single play that you ever witnessed...as it happened?

I did not forget you either

1. Hamlet was nice. La Cage Aux Folles was amazing. But, if you were a magical agent for David Tennant and John Barrowman...what role would you send them out to snag for posterity?

2. Generalizing here, but of the handful of British people I know reasonably well, you are the only one interested in new age subjects. Where would you say that interest springs from?

3. Why Teabiscuit?

4. Did you have an imaginary friend as a child? Or...you know...do you have one now?

5. Russell T. Davies...friend or foe?

And now I'm rolling...

...that I figure I know what you think about the things that you think about...so you are harder to meme...but...

1) You and I have the same experience with how we get out music and I must say I love this grab and go technology...but I find I am often inspired by my older music...Paul Simon, Jackson Browne or J.J. Cale. Is there a group or songwriter that you find inspiring over and over again?

2) What is your favorite work by Gilbert and Sullivan?

3) Yes, you have the kitties...and there's your online persona...but...Do you have a totem animal? That is, an animal you relate to or would like to be?

4) Did the Korean Woman across the road that wanted to learn about the Catholic church find her place in the new culture and/or learn enough of the language and customs to be happy?

5) Russell T. Davies...friend or foe?

Don't *cough* on me

...you could still be contagious. Feel free to substitute another question if you like...

1. You recently had a pipe burst and I can relate as our flat was flooded when the upstairs neighbor's hot water heater exploded. Other than the recent one, have you been party to any other household disasters in your life?

2. Modifying one that you asked someone else...If you had a week off and money to burn, where would you go and what would you do?

3. What is your favorite song to sing loud and proud during a road trip or in the shower?

4. I know that like myself you have sleep issues. What is the craziest thing you've considered doing to help you sleep?

5. If you could make any book or play into a movie, which one would you make and who would you cast?

We have met your resistance

So funny...and yet so true. It's the essence of black humor.

Though I do know that some people are still thinking about the pony. It's not that I don't think we will get it...it's just that they do seem to be stuck in this rut, don't they?

How abstract

1. Hamlet was nice. La Cage Aux Folles was amazing. But, if you were a magical agent for David Tennant and John Barrowman...what role would you send them out to snag for posterity?

For David Tennant, Taggart, because the number of auditions shows he's keen to be on there. For John Barrowman, I don't think he needs my help. He already pursues his many varied dreams to fulfil his life as an entertainer.

2. Generalizing here, but of the handful of British people I know reasonably well, you are the only one interested in new age subjects. Where would you say that interest springs from?

I'm sensitive to the energies. I didn't like being around people when I was younger because I didn't cope well with the baggage in their auras. The prospect of going market shopping and bumping into crowds of people made be break out into a cold sweat. Learning about new age stuff has taught me how to deal with that sensitivity.

Also, my Christian beliefs were shattered pretty much when I was born. My Nan had married twice, and the Bible teachings were when you died, you would spend eternity with your spouse. My child mind questioned if my Nan would spend half of eternity with one and half of eternity with the other. As I didn't accept the Bible teachings without question, I came to see the sexist 'some are more equal than others' oppression that it has become with centuries of rewriting, and that most of the festivals we celebrate have New Age roots. This is what the Romans did to us.

3. Why Teabiscuit?

Many years ago my sister brought me a book for Christmas, Nicey and Wifey's Nice cup of tea and a sit down. There is a chapter on the merits of various biscuits. For Rich Tea Biscuits, it says, "Rich Tea presents us straight away with a paradox. If these are 'Rich' Tea, where are 'Poor' Tea biscuits..." It tickled me. I eat an awful lot of them, and you are what you eat. I'm also on a low income, so I'm a poor tea biscuit.

4. Did you have an imaginary friend as a child? Or...you know...do you have one now?

I can't say I ever held the hand of a being I only imagined being there. I can sense energetic beings that are invisible to the naked eye. I carry imaginary people in my head, but I tend to call those fic muses. ;-)

5. Russell T. Davies...friend or foe?

Evil, Rae, evil you are. But overall, friend. Because, as your summary of Dishevelled said, he created one of the most iconic couples with Ten/Rose. Even if he doesn't get the story right, fandom are blessed to have such a couple to play with.
