• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions (I'll also answer more, if asked)
1. How did you come by your LJ handle?
I have answered this one before...long ago. But, I'm sure a lot of people wonder. So, way back when computers first needed passwords, our geek guy went around asking us to come up with a personal ID to log in. He called me RAB because those are my initials and I signed off on all of his paperwork with them. He get to my computer set-up and asks, "RAB what do you want your ID to be?" Yes, it is that simple. After that, I went online and joined a community which I will talk about in the next question. When we switched proxy servers, some other person grabbed RABID as their log-in name. So, I said, "You know, I was Rabid1st." This is what happens when you are there in the stone-age of the computer revolution.
2. What was your first online fandom and are you still involved with them?
Interestingly enough, my first FANDOM was Doctor Who...and I'm still involved in that one, too. But my first ONLINE fandom was for The X-Files. I am only attached to the fringes of that one. I am still a fan of the show and stayed active in my little corner of the fandom until this last movie. But I must say...now...I've lost heart and don't find it as interesting. I recently let all of my X-Files VHS tapes go...so now...if I don't buy the DVD sets...I won't even have the episodes to rewatch.
3. Despite a love of time travel storylines, why don't you like the Outlander series? (which I just started reading)
I am actually NOT a lover of time travel storylines. Just as I am not a fan of vampires, even though I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And Lost Boys and Salem's Lot and Dracula. I like Doctor Who because it had a lot of potential for story development. I fell in love with the Doctor and, in the new incarnation, with Rose. Though Rose is the reason I've lost my love of the Doctor. He's now become a character with very limited possibilites...like Peter Pan...and so he loses a lot of his charm for me. I think that when any story becomes about the LORE of the story...it loses it's charm for me. This is why I don't like Vampire stories...they are usually working in an area that has been worked to death already...so that's boring.
4. If you met RTD, what would you say to him? First, I would tell him that I am a huge fan and I think he's very talented. Then, I would tell him that he took the Doctor to a place where we saw him as limited and small and that wasn't the way to go...and I am very sorry that he didn't see how to expand the character. I suppose I would wish him better luck next time. <<--assuming he WILL screw it up...which judging by Sarah Jane...and some recent spoilers...it seems he WILL.
5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Victoria, British Columbia. First, Canadian health care and politics, both reasonable. Second, it's a beautiful place. Third, I could go watch things being filmed and offer up scripts for shows filming in Vancouver...like Supernatural.
5a. Why haven't you commented on this week's Supernatural yet??!!! LOL Because I have had a very busy week. We had relatives in from out of state and we were going hither and yon and then I was exhausted by that...so...no time to watch Supernatural. I just did watch it. So, commentary is on the way. Glad that someone missed it.
