I admit this is probably just coincidence.

But, like so many of you, I recently found out that Julie, RTD, Euros and David were coming to the San Diego Comic Con next month.

At the time, I was all, "So...David and RTD are going to be in California. Movie talks are likely, then." And I also said, to myself, "Stand by for news of Billie in the States."

And today...there was Billie on the streets of New York. She was shopping with the family and I'm sure...it was nothing to get excited about if you are a sane human being.

But, since I am not a sane human being, I am giddy.

Because New York is the very best place to film a Rose in Pete's World scene. Two in the morning catching a taxi home. It was sort of set up in Father's Day and Daleks in Manhattan and even JE. And David was so lying to people about when he is done with Doctor Who, even though he could have been hedging a bit about the movie or thinking of when he truly cuts all ties which won't be until next New Year's Day.

Yet, I get my hopes up when Billie and David and RTD converge this way.

And there's really no reason.

This is a big country. And Comic Con isn't for another month. It is far too soon for David or RTD or Euros to casually pass through NYC. Of course, would anyone notice Euros?

And Hamlet wrapped yesterday. So, David is free to take a little jaunt to NYC.

"WHAT?!?" :looks innocent:

I'm just saying.

cough..pony...cough

Hey there, long time no wave at you!

I love your icon.

But don't get too bogged down by thinky thoughts...it's probably just a Showtime promo gig. Still, I do like them both here within a relatively short time of one another. And they have people over here now who could arrange filming for them. They might have better security than in the UK.

True! But,,,there is generally a stop over in NYC on your way to LA from England. My hopes are in the small spaces of time when a couple might meet and film a taxi home scene. :->

I'm intrigued that DT is off to Comic Con, partly because his contract with the BBC didn't allow him to do conventions at all while he was playing Ten. So presumably there are other arrangements in place now.

Well, he definitely is on some other kind of arrangement, then! I think that was what he meant about being done with Doctor Who in May...because he really won't be done with it until next year. But I believe his contract ended in May and they have started renegotiating things.

I feel, of course, that the Rose/Ten reunion is the only way to go in the show. As for a film series...they could quite easily do a film series with David in Pete's World that only required a cameo from Billie. Or they could try to do a Rose Tyler, Earth Defender film. RTD has an idea for that concept, it seems. Though, I believe he has used a lot of those ideas in Torchwood and the SJA. His "a spin-off too far" comments struck me as a bit bogus. It seemed more like he was covering the same ground and had nothing new to say.

However, there is some merit to the idea of a Doctor in another universe...because it gives us two sets of storylines...one for TV and one for films. And they have generally gone with a much more domestic Doctor in the films...something that makes me think they need not provide too much backstory on the Doctor/Rose relationship.

Film audiences can simply accept that the story is about these two people and their adventures in time and space. Those of us who watched the whole thing will be happy to see our couple again. Those of the viewers who WANT backstory...can buy the DVD's. Those people who want to move on from Rose/Ten can watch the television series.

I do not feel that we should drag the angsty part of the love story into the films. But there is really no need to do that. All we need do is start the story and have these two people involved. "I'm the Doctor and this is Rose," he could say and have done with it. People ask about him. He ignores them. Rose provides some background. I mean, after all, that's pretty much how the stories go anyway.

Yep, I think we'll get two parallel DW narratives, one for TV and one for movies. That's the lens I'm viewing the finale through, though I'd still be over the moon if we got a pony.

I think there are some real threats to Moffatt's DW surviving on TV. One is cost - we're into an era of enormous cuts, threatening all TV drama. Right now, DW seems safe, but that's because they're filming something agreed in principle before the credit crunch hit. If DT had stayed, his salary would have been capped at £100K. If S5 tanks, as it well might since the show's been at the top for so long, we may well be back into a late 80s situation where it's a movie franchise that keeps the show alive.

I don't think NY necessarily means filming, however. More likely talks and contracts.

Well...yes...I agree

NYC is probably about talks and contracts. And Billie has already established her American presence with Showtime...so she's got the work permits and agent reps and such. But, I do still believe having Billie here at this time is a good sign. It makes me think they want to talk to her as well.

And while the movie spin off idea might preclude a pony ending. It also would just as easily support one...because a Doctor switch clearly indicates they are BOTH the Doctor. Something that the rumored Rose/Smith wedding would NOT establish. Also, really...John Simm coming back definitely skews toward PONY! Because it definitely says BOTH of the Masters were the MASTER.

Update...on David's Contracts

Apparently, he is being sent with a group from BBC America. So the BBC is definitely behind him for this one.

It could be that they want to pimp their network during this financial slowdown. And...I'm pretty sure David is in negotiations for that film version of DW that the BBC is talking around the producers. It's a good idea to show him and his fandom off a bit.

I am very determined. If only that determination could carry the day...then everyone would be happy. Certainly, I did suggest that a good way to keep the franchise alive is to have David's Doctor in another universe, able to return at any time, and free to star in feature films and novels.

Your determination is pretty adorable. Of course seeing "pony" show up regularly might be skewing the adorable ratings a bit, hee.

Skewing them to MORE adorable?

Or LESS adorable?

To me...PONY is an adorable word. So I am hoping you mean the former. However, I will allow that my parents found my optimistic insistence on a pony...rather annoying after the third or fourth year of it.

Rae
loving your icon...that's one of my favorite Rose pics. Rather like her stroking the railing that time with Jack. Billie does the full body acting.

who honestly believes Billie is in contract negotiations just like David at this time, but has hope of hope...because she has definitely been seen on set and that in the middle of her filming Secret Diary for ITV. <<--That indicates she put a huge stock in "being there" for Rose and Ten.
