Vid Rec: Doctor/Rose to JE...with a REAL TEN kiss...trust me!

So, as you all know, I've never been one to stomach the happy-ever-after Ten 2 kiss videos. I just don't like the use of that kiss from the confidential to somehow whitewash/fanwank what I saw with my own eyes on the screen in JE. And so, I can't bear to watch most post-JE vids as it seems nobody can resist using that confidential kiss. And even in the pro-Ten vids I find it very jarring.

But this vid...this one...uses the kiss to advantage. It is about what I know to be true...that Ten isn't complete without his Rose. That he still needs her. Look at how SAD he is, people.

There is this dreaming Ten sequence that is beautiful along about 2:43...but I also adore the screen in screen effects she uses. She also does a wonderful job showing that connection between Ten and Rose in the clutches of the Daleks and Davros. Those looks they exchanged. And then there is that kiss. Best use ever of the confidential kiss...and I'm including the super-slo-mo version* which has now slipped to second place for me, after holding at #1 for a long time.

*when the shot is in slo-mo I believe it is Billie and David rehearsing and I'm fine with that...I just don't think Rose would kiss Ten 2 with such abandon. And apparently RTD agreed with me...since he cut the kiss down to what it was in JE.

Because I trust you so much when it comes to Doctor Who I watched the vid and I loved it. Thanks for the recommendation considering if I'd found it on my own I probably would have passed on the basis of it featuring the 10.2/Rose kiss. :(

The ridiculously awesome Nine/Rose scenes were an added bonus.

Yes, I totally enjoyed the Nine/Rose stuff. Nine is so very lovely, sometimes I forget. I recently watched him and Rose in Empty Child. When he asks her, "Are you sure about that shirt?" And she says, "I'm taking it out for a spin." They were such a sweet pair.

yeah and I'm a whole lot happier with Nine then I am with Ten at the moment. I mean Nine essentially ceased to be because of his dedication to Rose. Ten has become an emo 'my life is so sad' choice stealer. (who is still redeemable but is not on my good list at the moment)

I'd like to believe it can all be explained...

...that Ten isn't really just an idiot or a lout or a coward. I wish I could buy into anyone's idea of leaving Rose as "noble", but I can't. I need a longer, better explanation than the one we have, because I can't buy the one we have. I can't imagine Rose happy. And we can see that TEN isn't happy. Since Rose's main reason for returning to him...time and time again was, "I can't leave him, all on his own." It seems likely she will be coming back.

So...until then...I am going with Ten having to separate Ten2 and Donna so that Donna can be saved. Ten tried to let Rose know what was going on without saying anything that Donna or Ten 2 would understand. He tells Rose to make Ten 2 better...that she HAS TO stay on Bad Wolf Bay because of Ten 2. And he knows that it could be "better than that"...as Donna says...as Ten 2 points out...that Rose could just make herself a new life with a man who is as close as you can get to the Doctor...without actually being him.

Basically, I think that the Doctor was motivated to get rid of Ten 2 until he was "better" and protect Donna. He thought of Rose as helping him in this. But Donna and Ten 2 present this case for Rose simply giving up...and it seems to Ten that she DID give up on him...when she kissed Ten 2. However, I am still mad at Ten for not believing in Rose...even if this view turns out to be the correct one.

I am happy that, apparently, according to one set of spoilers I've heard tell of, Wilf calls Ten a coward. Because he certainly acted like one at the end of JE.

Of course he's a coward - he himself admitted that (as Nine). Wonder what it will take to "cure" him of that perspective... ?

...if he hasn't seen it already. He needs to address it. Just as he needs to address this longing for "the life he can never have." Because not choosing to have a life is a completely different thing from feeling you CAN'T have that life. Currently, we have a Doctor who feels he gets nothing back from his life...who is a sort of sad-sack self-flaggelating martyr to his own fears. He is afraid to see anyone he loves die. He is afraid to stop running even for a minute or two because he can't really face life. It's not a position for a hero to be in.

And the resolution that the fandom sees coming...and which I am realist enough to know might well BE coming...is that the Doctor takes a fresh look at his life...sees all of the people in it and feels like he DOES have it good, is right where he wants to be...and has made a difference. Then he's content with being the feckless wanderer. And on he goes.

But...to me...it would be far, far better to have him face what he is running from...since RTD actually created all of this...it didn't exist in Old School. The Old School Doctor wasn't a tortured soul longing for a life he could never have. Nor was he a man who ran because he was afraid to stop. He was a man who loved to explore and meet new people and help those people to become better people when he left them. And there is still aspects of this Doctor in Ten...but mostly it is all overshadowed by his cowardice, now.

So...what will RTD do...? That's all we have to consider...will he give the majority of fans what they expect, a simple whitewash through the regeneration? Or will he give us the proper finish to HIS story? What I think the majority of fans are missing is that the proper finish to RTD's story...doesn't END the story for the Doctor...it simply makes him a better man, with a more complete experience of humanity.

I don't often look at vids mainly because I'm just not ready to disrupt my "inner vision" of how the D/R story needs to play out. But I had to check this one out because your description was so compelling. Watching it just about broke my heart. The kiss at the end even looked a bit colorized (sort of like my icon... gotta love Photoshop - you can do ANYTHING!) so maybe one could imagine it's not the "blue" Doctor getting the passionate kiss.

How can RTD *NOT* give us proper closure on this story arc? What was the whole point if not to show that the one adventure he thought he could never have, it was because he never let himself try and this once, just this once, he would make the choice to do just that... If the final specials do not allow for "original" Ten going to be with Rose, I just ... I can't even describe how outraged (in a television fannish sort of way) I will be...

Yep! As I've been saying...the JE ending doesn't go with the rest of the story. It's a Humperdinck! It has to be.

Or the whole story is a waste of our time. And once I've wasted five years...I don't care to waste any more time with a character. I'm not saying that we couldn't have had the Doctor get over Rose. I wouldn't have liked it one bit. But RTD could have decided to tell that story.

He didn't. He never wrote THAT story. He kept writing the Doctor deeply and truly in love with Rose, missing her everyday, seeing her in the people he met. All of those references to Rose in JE...Martha saying, "OMG! He found you!" and Donna saying, "Rose is coming back, isn't that good?" RTD is still writing the Doctor that way even now. So, how can we believe that Rose is unworthy of that love? That she would choose to settle for a version of her beloved...and let her true love suffer alone. I don't buy that.

I'm wondering if I mis-interpreted "the kiss" as shown in the vid. Am I to see that as 10 & R or 10.2 & R? If the former (because I can't tell that the suit is brown OR blue given the colorization in the vid), then it works and I'm happy. But if the latter, it doesn't work.

I just want to "take away" the right "message" from the vid.

It WAS one of the best things I've seen - excellent editing, wow!

It is supposed to be BROWN and Rose kissing. The final shot shows a bit of blue there...but what happened is she turned the kiss around so that Rose and Ten kiss. So it is definitely Ten/Rose not Ten.2/Rose kissing. Also...I liked that she made is seem like the both wanted to kiss. With Ten 2 she definitely has his jacket front and pulls him into it....and that interests me from a "JE is not the end" standpoint...because...well...

The most logical pro-Ten/Rose love way to look at this...is that Ten was trying to get Rose to help him with the Donna/Ten 2 problem. Rose was trying to figure it all out...and part of her wondered if maybe Ten wasn't really her Doctor. After all, how could he leave her there if he was? Meanwhile, Ten is saying..."Does it need saying?" which we KNOW is his continuing problem. <<<--Now, RTD wants to hang his hat on this inability to speak from JE...we see that in his book..that he means for us to believe that ROSE needs to hear the words.

But DOES Rose need to hear them? This is probably the core question for Ten...if she needs to hear them...then she is better off with the human version and all ends right for everyone but Ten. If, however, Rose doesn't need to hear the words...then she will figure out what is going on...and she's Ten's true love. Currently, Ten feels that Rose kissing Ten 2..meant she needed to hear the words. That she didn't really believe in him as he believed in her. So he's all mopey and sad. But I think Rose was seriously thinking there in that final shot...she was looking at Ten 2 and thinking.

And maybe she was figuring all this out for herself...that she really was only supposed to "fix" Ten 2 and make him better...and then find a way to get him back. And through all of this...there is Bad Wolf Rose...who may well have already seen this happen and be there to fix it...like she was there when Donna met Rose in Turn Left.

...that is used for most of the videos now...Ten 2/Rose kissing...was never shown in an episode. That kiss is from the Doctor Who Confidential for Journey's End. Basically, it is David Tennant and Billie Piper kissing full on and very passionately. And, indeed, they were probably trying to make the kiss work between Ten 2 and Rose when they filmed that. However, I believe that the final cut of the episode is the canon cut. So, Ten 2 and Rose do not have a bit of TARDIS coral and Donna never said that appalling bit about the Doctor having an equal now. And finally...the kiss was a very passionless affair of Rose pulling Ten 2 into something.

Incidentally, I showed it to my sister...who never watches...doesn't care...and she said, "It looks like she's testing him...to see if he responds to her." And it looks like that to me as well. It looks like Rose was still in the process of deciding if Ten 2 was HER Doctor or not. And you have to allow that she probably couldn't believe HER Doctor would leave her behind...so she's got just cause to kiss the other guy.
