Spoilers to follow for the latest episode...
Man the show is so very good...convoluted and mindboggling...and yet, you can sense that it's making sense. I love it. I know people are upset about things...but I am totally content.
I'm going to talk about Monday night's episode and not only will I be spoiling you for that...I will be making some people queasy with my favorite couple discussion...so under the cut we go...
I might as well come right out and admit that I ship Peter and Claire. Yes, I'm sure it was because of Milo and Hayden giving off those chemical vibes from the start...and yes, I am deeply ashamed as I certainly am not one of those people who roll with the incest ficcing. In fact, usually it makes me go ICK! And I would be deeply ashamed of shipping Claire and Peter...if I could actually convince myself that Claire and Peter are related.
But, I can't.
I can certainly buy that they are going to have some serious emotional karma surrounding any mutual attraction...given that THEY believe they are related. But even that doesn't feel icky considering the nature of their relationship is such that it negates most of the ick factor on it's own 1) their biological relationship is remote in circumstance...2) they were not raised with it and they only understand it mentally. And 3) they had already bonded in a completely different way before finding out about their blood connections.
But I will shoulder my guilt until I am proven correct in my assumptions. I feel we will learn that Claire isn't a Petrelli or Peter isn't...Peter seems most likely since he's the one with the clean living vibe. Also, every Petrelli seems set on sacrificing Peter. On the other hand...Nathan is the only one without the natural power of empathy. And Nathan is the right age to be the REAL son of a watchmaker.
My point, and I do have one, is that Heroes is rocking the world with twists and turns. It has me on the edge of my seat over what world we are going to end up with and how we are going to stop all of the bad guys. Because Mr. Petrelli is a really wicked bad guy. He makes Sylar look like Elle's hero. Sylar coming into his own is sort of good to see. I know a lot of people don't like the Sylar/Elle angle...but it sort of works with the SciFi Nerds can't write romance cliche of cult TV. Also, in that same leaky row boat are Matt and Speedy Girl. Frankly, that just looks like something Matt picked up out of his future visions. The only thing I have really hated this year is Mohindar turning into reptile boy. I don't even see why that would happen or how it happened.
Yeah, okay...I can accept teleportation but not a bad skin rash? LOL!
Is Claire special? Save the cheerleader, save the world? I'm thinking it's a bit too convenient to be right. More likely to be someone else...like Ando...or Peter. Touching on another fandom complaint, I don't know that we should assume that Claire protecting herself is what leads to her becoming the sort of woman who would kill Peter.
I would imagine, based on past seasons of the show, that all of the efforts Peter is making to stop her from taking care of herself are more likely to lead to that place. There are still so many things about Peter that don't make sense...one of the main ones being a reference back to Angela and Simone's Dad discussing if Peter should know the truth about himself.
What truth was that? That he was going to explode? He knew that already! Is it that he's adopted? Or is it that he's the catalyst? I'm not sure. I do think Tim Kring knows though. I know...I always think they know. And then...they don't know.
And I do know that the show is going through an internal shake up...writer's heads are rolling...but still...I do think this show has it's plotlines in order for the finale. And the pacing is so much better this year than it was last year. Now, if only Mohindar had remained heroic...or was just less scaly.

Date: 2008-11-19 05:42 am (UTC)Anyway...Hiro didn't do much to be ten...but as you say...he's Hiro, so we can forgive a lot. I simply thought Hiro hadn't come very far since he was ten. I enjoyed the gathering of the sides...and how some people might not deserve to be on their chosen side.
But the main thing for me was that right on schedule last week...things started to click into place...I really love the intricate nature of these stories...and that is all down to Tim Kring. According to the recent TV Guide notice, most of the things we dislike are done by writers other than Tim. We will see soon if that is true, since the other people have been fired. I only hope Tim isn't biting off more work than he can handle.
:tries to stomp on one of Sylar's eyebrows before it can escape from his face:

Date: 2008-11-19 08:29 am (UTC)I agree that Claire protecting herself isn't a reason to believe that she'll become a killer. I think, though, what they really want to get across is that feeling of "numbness" that she's talked about this season. I can see making that leap...she starts losing the ability to feel, not just physically, but emotionally, and that tips the scales. I don't think they've quite taken the right angle with this, though.
Is it wrong that I thought Sylar looked sexy with his shirt off? And he's actually pretty cute when he smiles! Those eyebrows, though...yikes. Poor Zach, I just don't think there's much that can be done about those babies.
The evolutionary leap forward in Matt/Daphne's relationship just wasn't doing it for me. I adore Matt (because I adore Greg Grunberg), but I just wasn't feeling Speedy Girl at all. It was way too contrived. Meh.
I haven't been too keen on Mohinder this season, but I suppose that's part of the juggling of heroes and villains that they've been doing. And the scaly/spidery/whatever thing he's got going on. Yuck. I'll be all too happy when they wrap that up, one way or another.
Hiro was cute...but still Hiro. I'm not sure I'm getting the whole "let's regress Hiro to a 10 year old" thing. Seems rather pointless. Though I did have to laugh when his first thought was "waffles!" lol
