This is from the Times excerpt from his new book...

How do you know when to start writing?

From: Russell T. Davies To: Benjamin Cook

I leave it till the last minute. And then I leave it some more. Eventually, I leave it till I'm desperate. That's really the word, desperate. I always think, I'm not ready to write it, I don't know what I'm doing, it's just a jumble of thoughts in a state of flux, there's no story, I don't know how A connects to B, I don't know anything! I get myself into a genuine state of panic. Except panic sounds exciting. It sounds all running-around and adrenalised. This is more like a black cloud of fear and failure.

That's me, exactly!

On the other hand...maybe ALL writers feel this way. Writing is sort of like giving birth--rewarding, but scary and draining--I don't do it until the proddings of my nature make it inevitable.

Also, I would like to note that he says the intention ALL ALONG was to send David off with a bang at the end of S4...and have Billie back for it. As I have repeatedly said, they always planned for a break after David's run. Also, Billie agreed to do 4 episodes. She's only done 3 so far. Makes you wonder exactly what the scene on the beach would have looked like...if 2009 Specials weren't on the books. Would we have had 11 going on while clone 10.2 stayed? That might have made it easier on me. But I still think we might get 11 going on...at Christmas...only NOW...I think 11 will look just like 10.

Like I said, the last half of JE was so random. It felt re-written. I still say he had planned for a happily ever after, but perhaps the BBC or Moffat stuck a fork in the gears.Possibites:
1)The BBC pretty much dictates DW. They do it because its making oodles of money, its gain popularity in the states (for once) and they need to leave it open for the next guy.

2) Moffat said he wanted to start clean and RTD "arranged" that for him. <_< 3) RTD and all his genius is planning to throw us off the trail only to give us happily ever after with the last special. Keep in mind the title "Rose Tyler:Defender of Earth" keeps coming up as a possibility of being the title of one of the specials. The rumor always says the last one. As I've asked before, how exactly does RTD plan on bringing in audiences without Rose? She was the one thing reporters asked about the most. 4)Billie could've backed out at the last minute. Freema did and RTD had to rewrite TW. (man, he was pissed) Then again she could be part of the cover up.

Billie is part of the cover up. She always has been. Plus, I can tell she's lying. I said she was lying before about coming back...and she's lying about the end of Rose/Doctor in the Journey's End confidential.

Plus..."Journey's End!" I mean...that title is all about deception...it could only be applied to Donna. Plus, the spoilers are all saying Donna is due back...and so is John Simms...and I hold with the idea of the Master having a clone self, too.

Personally...I think that we could have Rose back THIS Christmas...for our WHAT? Moment...then have her do a Rose Tyler Defender of the Earth episode well after the baby is born.

I think the JE was hastily rewritten...to postpone some things...but I do think that RTD had always intended to create the clone...what I think the rub here is...is David staying on for the 2009 specials...this is in the works at the same time as the Moffat taking over idea. Moffat HAS to know what Doctor he's writing for...new man or old man. If he is writing for CLONE TEN...then he's in gravy...he can have David and yet write him differently. OR have another guy.

If he's writing TEN...he's writing TEN.

Whatever RTD's intentions were, I have to say that I was disappointed by Journey's End. I was expecting this huge storyline where everyone gets major character development. Unfortunately, I think the episodes focused too much on the action and less on the characters. Rather than everyone having guest appearances, we were given cameos.

The stories for Martha, Jack, Sarah Jane Smith, Torchwood, Mickey, etc were too disjointed from the Doctor's for them to really mean anything to me. Rose and Ten did not get their "Better with two" moments because it was too crowded. In fact, no character got to have a significant moment with the Doctor save for Donna.

Honestly, I would have much rather the season finale only include Donna and Ten. Then in the TV movies the other characters could come back with their own major storylines. One film could focus entirely on Rose/Ten/paralell universe, another on Martha/Sarah Jane Smith, and the last on Torchwood. I think there would have been less displeasure this way.
