Okay...in my rant of a few moments ago...some of you may recall it ;-D ...I was talking about my view of AtS as it seems to stand right now.

But as I was ranting a little voice in my head was trying to fix everything that has gone wrong. That's what I do...I doctor plots. I do this all the time...reading a book, watching TV, at the movies...my sweetie finds it VERY annoying. And well...it occurred to me...a few weeks ago...that the FOIL storyline is still viable. Provided we don't have ALL the facts.

Stay with me...this is a wacky idea...and it should be noted I have NO FAITH in this happening on the show...not at all.

But without going into Spoilery details...Angel seems to really resent SPIKE right now...he seems indeed to have a giant stick up his butt about Spike daring to have a soul or be around. And the question I have to ask is...WHY?

Okay...Spike is annoying! That's his role on Angel. I get that. But Angel HAS IT ALL! Angel has the girl...and the fancy job and the shanshu on the horizon...and he's the big hero. So WHAT does he care if Spike is hanging around? Why would Angel think Spike stands any chance at all of taking anything away from him? Spike's a big loser...RIGHT?

Well...maybe he's NOT.

Maybe Angel KNOWS Spike already has taken something away from him. We know that Angel didn't tell anyone about Spike having a soul. He kept that and the world saving part to himself. And we know that Angel believes Spike will, if made solid, go after Buffy. But what we DON'T know is what Buffy had to say when she visited L.A. after Spike died for her and the world.

Angel knows! And it occurs to me that maybe Spike already has Buffy's heart...and just doesn't know it. Maybe she told Angel he should stop waiting for her...and that is why Angel is feeling so hopeless now that Spike is back.

Of course, I am most likely wrong about this! But it would make a heck of a twist...and it would allow us to explore the TRUE meaning of the hero...ie. Angel. He would have to do brave things with no hope of reward...because it was the right thing to do.

That would all be lovely, so very lovely. The hero has to make sacrifices, after all, and Angel would lose Buffy's heart to Spike, and, I'm still hoping, the Shanshu...

You're rant made a lot of sense, too. I figure the PTB saw that James brought in ratings and fans thus $$$$, so they made sure he got hired regardless of how or if he'd fit in the storyline. It would have made so much more sense to just spin him off into his own show maybe watchering some of the new slayers or something.

And you know the beauty of this plot is...

...it pleases everyone but the hard-core B/A fans. Angel still gets to be the hero...and have the movie spin-offs and such...and he gets to show the DEPTH OF HIS LOVE.

Plus, he can be all tormented and bordering on evil but still have a good excuse for NOT telling Spike the truth. Because, it IS within the realm of possibility that Angel might ACTUALLY believe Spike is dangerous and unworthy and playing Buffy for a fool with his talk of love. He does, afterall, have a history with Spike the Slayer Killer.

Still...while it would make sense and make a lot of people happy...I doubt this scenario will happen...I don't think Joss is that in touch with the audience...maybe I will just pen a ficlet.

thanking you for reading and commenting on my rants ;-D

Anything that makes Angel dark and dangerous and nearly evil makes me happy. Joss never wants me happy, though, that's quite apparent from all the torture he's put me through over the years. *g*

Two weeks from now ep looks like some nice history of Spike/Angel will come out.

A ficlet would be great. I loved the last Sweet Spot. Spike counting the holes in the ceiling tiles and then barfing during sex had me rolling. Plus I love the Tara/Buffy bonding scenes. I always liked Tara as a great friend.

You hit upon why I dislike the Angel character and thus his show so much. Since the end of the first season he has had a reward promised to him and that, for me at least, has tainted his journey. I find Angel boring (the show and character) because it's so tied to this eventual reward of his. I would find both so much more interesting if everything he was working towards was taken from him and he had to actually evaluate what his life means. Take destiny out of the equation and make Angel about choices. I would then be able to root for Angel. That would be my remedy anyways. Of course I don't actually watch Angel and haven't for a long time, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

BTW I really like your scenario and for that reason know it won't ever happen. It would make me want to watch Angel and I have figured out Joss really doesn't want me to watch Angel.

Yes! This season was the perfect setup to see what Angel is really made of. I've said all along - give Spike the shanshu and the girl and then send him and Buffy off to live their happy life and then we see who Angel really is. It is only by doing good without the expectation of a reward that he proves he is worthy of a reward.

But of course that will never happen because it will make me happy.
