Okay...the first thing I have to say isn't really a spoiler. I said in my last ratings post that the 1.3 point Rose-bump didn't happen and I was amazed. But that was because I was comparing the STORY components...Utopia to Episode 11. This is the first part of the finale...but most regular viewers don't know that...only the internet superfans know that.
I should have been looking at Doctor-lite episodes...Love and Monsters and Blink for my ratings numbers...because this episode was really a Doctor-free episode. And there it is...6.6 for L&M and 6.3 for Blink...and 7.0 for Episode 11.
Our Rose Bump is WIN! YAY!!
In fact, it was a 1.7 Rose-Bump!
To put it another way...this time people retained interest in the show (the ratings didn't sag) even knowing that the Doctor wasn't going to be in it. So, the casual fan understood that the story was continuing...as long as Rose was in it.
And now for something that is a little spoilery...just another thing that dawned on me re: Donna.
I was thinking about how the Doctor needs a vacation...as always. And how what he really wants is to just rest and be with Rose. And how what Rose really wants is to just be with him and how I expect Donna to take over for him for a bit...and it hit me...Donna is constantly refered to as "a temp"...I'm just a temp...or leave it to super-temp. And that's what the Doctor needs...a temp. Someone to fill in at his job while he takes a sabbatical.
How cool is that?
Very cool!
Because...come on...temps are important. If we didn't have temps some people would never get a vacation or a maternity break (the two things, I think, the Doctor and Rose really need). And again...if I'm right...I want to squeeze RTD's stuffing out for being so cute.

Yup, I do indeed love you. :D

Date: 2008-06-23 09:08 pm (UTC)Well I'm holding back the RTD love until after the finale. But, I tell you, it's getting difficult after the awesomeness of Turn Left.
I have to believe he will do something wonderful for Rose and the Doctor at the end. He loves Rose. He ships Rose/Doctor. Yes he loves Martha and Donna too, but Rose will always be special to him. I just can't believe he won't leave us and them with some semblance of a happy ending.

If this doesn't happen - and how I wish it would - I think you should write it (not-so-subtle hinthintwinkwinknudgenudge).

Date: 2008-06-23 05:08 pm (UTC)Also while re-watching the end (yes, again) I was reminded that I noticed the phrasing the fortune teller used when being afraid of Donna the first time but the Bad Wolf-ness overrode all other thought, "What will you be?" Hm... some pretty obvious foreshadowing if your theories are proved correct, no?

Donna is constantly refered to as "a temp"...I'm just a temp...or leave it to super-temp. And that's what the Doctor needs...a temp. Someone to fill in at his job while he takes a sabbatical.
That is completely brilliant. I would love so much if this turns out to be the case.

Date: 2008-06-24 01:11 am (UTC)As for the Super Temp Doona, I love it!! Saving the universe while the Doctor and Rose have a life together. :D I'm so hoping we get something like this!

Date: 2008-06-24 05:42 am (UTC)I really really want this!! And I totally agree that we've had a lot of stuff throughout the last few years that have pulled us into thinking we're going to get this possible ending. The whole journey... at least for me, will be for not if this doesn't happen. I need the happy ending! And Donna saving universe as well!! :D
Yeah me too. I was hoping for that range but I can understand why it didn't go up there. I'll be extremely surprise if we don't reach 8, 9 or even 10 in the final two episodes.

Date: 2008-06-24 03:35 am (UTC)I am already onboard with a version of a "Human Time Lord" theory, thanks to Honorh's Seed Pearls, but the way you incorporate all the old and new threads from four seasons (and more) of Doctor Who just staggers me. (In a GOOD way: I am impressed!)
Everything you write - fic and speculation - is just brilliant. I would have missed out on so very much enjoyment these last months if I hadn't been fortunate enough to have read along with your musings and your thought-provoking analyses of the episodes.
Last year, Honorh's alternate Who-verse fic kept me going after Doomsday, by giving Rose back Nine after she lost Ten. Then your Disheveled gave me hope that "forever" was possible for the Doctor and Rose.
And now, with Donna, there's so much more.
You reflect on the (big picture) story arcs while unravelling the (small picture) threads that are woven to achieve it. And then you take those disconnected threads and reconstruct the picture...and the puzzle...and the Who-verse!
I am in awe.
"I'm so glad I met you!"

Date: 2008-06-24 05:04 am (UTC)I'm so happy that you are glad to have met me and don't mind me rambling on about Doctor Who constantly...seriously...I'm starting to bore myself. However, my muse is simply riding out the finale now...she has told me...in no uncertain terms that she can't create anything while there is this much uncertainty in the world.
I can only hope RTD gives us a happy so I can go on writing Rose/Ten fic for some time to come. That the show goes on after the happy...that Eleven has a new companion is fine...but that it might go on without the happy scarcely bears thinking on.
