And our A/C has been out for 2 days. I am about to take my pillows and go sleep in the car. Jeez!

In other hot news...there's a new Harry Potter book looming on the horizon. I suppose all the Harry Potter fans know this already...but the librarians just heard today. Actually, most of the local ones will probably hear it from me tomorrow.

All I see in the news is an announcement of a Harry Potter-like series, not a new book with any real link to Harry Potter. Have a link?

I've been out of the harry potter loop for so long, so this is completely new news to me lol. Is there any info about it out and about yet?

I wonder if the rumour is about this:

http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2008-05-28-harry-potter-prequel_N.htm

Not a prequel, just a little 800 word snippet for charity. She specifically says she is NOT working on a prequel.

I hope your A/C comes back soon. I feel your heat woes. Maryland will be 90 on Saturday. It's never that hot in June.

Interesting. At the very least, it'll just revive the Harry Potter fever for a little bit longer.

I hear you! It's hot here too.

What new Harry Potter book?! I just know I'm going to be asked to place tons of holds on some mysterious HP book.

Tell me about it. Someone came in yesterday to ask about it...and I was like...NO, there's not a new book coming. Then, I came home and there's a new book coming. However, I think it could be what Keswindhover talks about in another comment. A handwritten prequel snippet that will be available to fans after it is auctioned off at some charity or other.

That's the prequel, right? I'd heard rumors about that.

We've got (New) England weather here....rain rain and more rain. :P

Actually, it has cooled down up here recently, but we did get one of those heat waves in April that make a body want to dive into the school pool with all one's clothes on. And of course the in-laws refuse to ever use the AC, evar. *sigh* Sorry you are having to go through it now too.

As to HP.... *grumble* I'm sorry, never been a fan (and so The Shakespeare Code was extremely annoying in that particular). Aside from Harry being, in my opinion, an utter Gary Stu, which I cannot abide, it just seems to me that the writer's just writing books now to make more money. (BTW, did you hear about JK suing some poor librarian fan for making an unofficial HP guide because it was too thorough and no one would be willing to buy her guide whenever she got around to writing it?? >=/ ) Anyway, the So You Want To Be A Wizard series is a much better "kids as wizards" story IMHO.

OMG! I loved the So You Want to Be a Wizard books! I kind of lost track after the fifth one, but they were my favorite for a long time. I was always of the opinion that Harry Potter was not very well-written and lacked characterization and that her characters were very 2-D and not fully realized.

Yes! That is exactly how I feel about the HP stories.

So nice to hear that someone else has read the Young Wizards books too. The stories are really quite lovely, even tear jerking without being emo. And I love Diane Duane's rules for the world of magic. ^__^

I am a bit ashamed that it took me until the 5th book to realize how bad they were, but the again, I was only 8 when they came out. I kind of want to re-read the Wizarding series and then the new ones. I am addicted to children's literature since I never read any of it as a kid.

Turns out there is not a new Harry Potter book. Word was it was 800 pages...it is 800 words and will be published as part of a charity promotion in Great Britian. We are not likely to see it on these shores for some while...if at all.

You are KIDDING me?!?!?!? This isn't a book by JKR is it? She SWORE she wouldn't write any more HP.

And while I feel most empathetically for your no A/C (I hope you get that fixed soon - if you lived near the water you'd get more of the ocean breeze - where you're at? pretty much a sponge for heat & humidity...)

We've been at or flirting with 100 degrees all week. Summer arrived about a month ago. Last year was abnormal for us - it was cool and wet with flooding. This year we will be back to normal. Bloody hot and drought. My lawn already knows this. It is very sad (and looks it).

I feel for your lawn. But also for my kidneys. I was so hot that they were threatening to walk out on me.

It's not just the heat...as they say...it's the humidity.

:snicker:

Still, that was sort of the weird part...as we have had no heat before and I've never gotten this sick from it.

And we are going to need a new A/C.

Are you where you can hope on AIM? As I am out there.
