DW S4 Part 2 Preview Deja Vu
May. 25th, 2008 11:46 amThat's sort of rhymey-whimey, isn't it?
Okay...nobody but a few people from my beta chats will believe this but...I have to remark on the overwhelming sense of deja vu that the recent S4 Doctor Who trailer gave me. You see...right after Doomsday aired I started compiling scenes for my next Doctor Who story. I intended to start it when I finished Disheveled (which I didn't think would take nearly this long). It would be an epic about Rose Tyler in Pete's World. A story of how she had to become the Doctor for that universe.
I hate to give a story away like this...but...I really don't think I will write it at this late date.
Let's go "trailer only spoilerish"...under this cut
See? My story was based on that scene where Mickey brings the Arc to life by touching it. And the idea that Mickey would follow Rose anywhere. You all remember how the Dalek in Dalek picked up some of Rose's DNA and her human compassion when she touched it? Well, I thought, what if that prison ship picked up Mickey's desire to follow Rose anywhere? What if it followed her to Pete's World when Pete opened up the door to save Rose. Rose would have a Time Lord/Dalek ship at her command.
Then, I thought...what if there was still some Daleks onboard the ship when it found Rose*? She would have to jettison them into her universe. They would make more Daleks...and the Time War would come to Pete's World. The Daleks would want all of the Universes to fall, now that they had discovered how to bridge them. So, I had this story where Rose is refighting the Time War...and her battle starts spilling over into our universe. In my story Rose found the Pete's World Sarah Jane. And this Sarah Jane becomes Rose's traveling companion. In my story it is THIS Sarah Jane that has ghostly encounters with the Doctor and Martha in our universe...but...still...
I have the stars going out. I have the Doctor's TARDIS on fire and that white Vortex thing, which in my story is part of Rose's solution to the war. But the Doctor almost loses her anyway, so he's reaching out at one point, begging her to take his hand. I have that scene with Rose (looking up at incoming Dalek ships) and the gun(it is like the one the Doctor modifies to deal with polycarbonite...skin of a Dalek...in Doomsday) and one where she is running through the middle of a battlefield. I have her striding away from an explosion, after Dalek agents think they've captured her. The Doctor is very grim in my story because he figures out that Rose is fighting the war in his place, facing the same horrors he faced. He has the solution for stopping such a war...but he knows it will destroy Rose to use it.
Now, I am sure that in the trailer all of those clips are from different episodes and RTD's story is not my story at all. I'm not speculating here. I know the trailer is a montage of coming attractions. But I might have created it myself to illustrate scenes from my story. It is amazing to me how absolutely spot on those images were with my storyline. In fact, it is downright creepy.
BTW, it turns out...Rose is the one who has to push the button this time and end HER world. But she finds a more human solution to the war at the last second. Instead of trying to isolate the problem, she unites the two universe and squeezes the Daleks out of existence. And it also turns out that the Time Lords were in her universe, all along. They just couldn't communicate with one another for the same reason the Doctor's TARDIS wouldn't work in Pete's World...no Vortex...a different energy source. Luckily, the Dalek Modified Arc Ship helped solve their petrol problems. There is a lovely scene at the end of my story where the stars come back...and so do a number of Time Ships. And the Doctor and Rose are free to unite their lives and live out her lifetime together.
But like I said...that's not RTD's story.

*Davros would be an even better prisoner to have on board the Arc but I have to say I didn't have that idea.

I wish I could read it!
Date: 2008-05-25 04:41 pm (UTC)I just hope that you won't stop writing Who fic after this season. I'd love to read another great epic from you.
P.S. OMG, that trailer!!! And Rose looking so kick ass, and the Doctor's "Yeah" Rose is coming back grin! (Actually, I was surprised he didn't look more ecstatic, but they were probably talking about some very serious business before that scene they showed us. That or he might be very concerned with exactly how she would be getting back since it's supposed to be impossible.) I'm honestly really scared about how things are going to turn out. I want the story to go your/our way with the Doctor getting the life he never had with Rose. But will TV ever, ever give us a story with such a joyous, happy happenstance? This season will either make me or break me.
P.P.S. Not a spoiler, just speculation. During that part where Rose is talking about the Darkness coming and nothing being able to stop it, where they are showing the Dalek ship... didn't that one in the shadows look kind of different? Do you think it might be... Davros??? O___O!!
Re: I wish I could read it!
Date: 2008-05-25 04:54 pm (UTC)The Doctor's face...was so much like the one in my story. Because I think he comes to see that Rose is in horrible peril and all of creation is shattering. Not a happy moment...and yet...it is like that moment in Doomsday when he told her both universes would fracture...and she said, "So?"
He will see her again...and "Yeah" that is the best news. But the circumstances are grim. I think he's frightened and I think it is so beautiful that there is one thing that can brighten him in that fear...and Donna knows what it is. I think when he is face to face with Rose...he will be awed and amazed and show his love in every way.
RTD is bound to save that reunion scene to the be savored by us all.

Re: I wish I could read it!
Date: 2008-05-25 08:46 pm (UTC)I am expecting something to happen soon that will at the very least hint to the Doctor that either there's an alternative Time War, or that his people have survived in some form. This is pure speculation on my part - I'm not knowingly spoiling anyone.
Oh...and about AltTime Lords

Date: 2008-05-26 07:45 pm (UTC)There was something odd about Donna in the trailer. At some point she was wearing the same clothes as that doctor in Last of the Time Lords.I'd like to know what your take was on that. Is it possible it was her that picked up the ring at the end? She was serching for the Doctor.I wouldn't say she did it on purpose. She picked up that probe in Partners in Crime without knowing what it did. So could it be that she becomes possesed by the Master and ends up getting killed? Crazy thoughts and was curious what you'd think.
I think the Ring might well be like the Watch
Date: 2008-05-26 09:22 pm (UTC)It is possible that Donna was the one to pick up the ring. When I first heard she was coming back, I thought maybe that was her hand. And the "something on your back" line made me think that even more so...that she was somehow possessed or under another being's control. I'm not so sure now but what RTD was presenting us with the same kind of thing that Moffat gives us with The Doctor's Daughter...that is, a lovely set-up for some future storyline about how the Master managed to survive. Also, it is very tempting to have a female Master...or an evil female Time Lord of some kind in place for the next Doctor to have UST with.
Truthfully, I very much hope that RTD and I see eye to eye on Rose and Ten and what the Doctor needs. I believe we do as the story has presented so far. But when it comes to RTD's plots...he usually surprises me.
As for who Jenny's mother is...well...the explanation they give is Parthenogenesis and that is an acceptable SciFi explanation. It means the Doctor is both her father and her mother. They use some sort of hollowed out cell matrix, and then add his DNA in some random combination. With human DNA there would be no way to make males without Y chromosomes...but you could make females as we are X/X. Here, since we know nothing at all about how Time Lords reproduce...you could well have the situation I propose in Wild Geese and the Doctor has some other way of determining gender than his Y chromosome. It is also possible given enough genetic engineering skill that you could manufacture the chemical coding needed for a particular allele.
All this to say...hmmm...I didn't notice Donna dressed in Last of the Time Lord costume. Where is this in the trailer? I do think Donna will be pivotal to the end game. I also think she will want him to go to Rose as much as we all do...I hope that is what happens...for the Doctor's sake, Rose's sake, my sake and the sake of the show's longevity.

Date: 2008-05-27 07:52 pm (UTC)I mean the professor that alerts the Master to Martha's whereabouts during the year that never happened. She is very old and tells Martha that she doesn't look like a killer. In the back lit scene Donna appears to be wearing an outfit similar to the professors'. Check-out the screencaps to see what I mean:
