2008 Kentucky Derby Preview

Okay, time to talk about my other passion...horse racing. The 2008 Kentucky Derby looms this Saturday and for once my interest in Doctor Who must take a back seat.

It looks like Big Brown is going to go off as morning line favorite. I cannot argue with that. He's a magnificent looking animal and his win in the Florida Derby was very impressive. However, I hesitate to trust a horse with only one major race under his saddle cinch. It could well be that he is a super-horse...but before I start waving that flag I want to see him win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness.

So, who else is on the radar? Pyro...and Colonel John. Of the two I would back Colonel John. He's had races where he was rated and races where he faced traffic issues. My only concern is that he likes to come from off the pace and that will hurt him if there are too many horses in his way going into the final turn. Big Brown, if he is the real deal, could run away with it all. Still, Colonel John is my horse.

So...I went to her LJ and waved my Colonel John flag in front of her nose. Maybe she will stop by and we can compare notes. I will be raving about this on Saturday, I'm sure. Unless the race is a real dud.

I've never been a huge follower of it... but I always enjoy hearing about it.
Sayno has been a friend of mine (IRL) since HS. She'd call me and talk about it every year. XD; And while sometimes I have NO IDEA what she's talking about... I always enjoy hearing about it.

I'll let her know who ya are if she asks. She'll be ELATED to have a Derby friend.
