Yes, I think too much about this.

But, I've been thinking about how I would write Rose's reaction to Donna and Martha (assuming she does any scenes with them...NO SPOILERS HERE) with the canon as it stands now. And I think, given the set up at this point...I would have her be nothing but grateful to his other companions.

I would like to see her respond generously to Martha and Donna, viewing them as people who took care of her Doctor when she wasn't there to do so. So while Donna and Martha are both sizing Rose up, wondering what's so special about her, I would like Rose to be low-key and all about the Doctor and his well-being.

I'd like that as well. I was watching "Parting of the Ways" last night with the commentary on (the husband's doing a rewatch w/commentary) and there's the moment when Lynda with a Y heads off to watch the Dalek's progress (and her eventual death). John Barrowman and Billie Piper start laughing about Rose's expression at learning the Doctor has told Lynda she can come with them, which they both put down to jealousy

To see Rose respond as you suggested would be a nice little touch of a character growth arc, another step in her development -- and that's one thing I like about the new series is that we are seeing the characters grow.

I agree with the idea that she would be more interested in how he has been without her and thankful to them for keeping him company. She knows how bad off he can be when left on his own.

I think Martha would be more interested in her than Donna, but I am sure Donna would have a few interesting remarks.

I loved that in that last two minute conversation, she was worried about him, particularly about him being alone. So I would hope that she'd be grateful that they were there to help him, to keep away the darkness that attacks when he's on his own.

Not sure how much confidence I have in RTD to write it that way, and I realize that some degree of jealousy of him traveling with young, attractive women would be natural in anyone. But I really hope that's how it will play out- that she is gracious and appreciative to them.

I agree. When you love someone its all about whats in their best interest. My shrink once told me that jealous love isn't love but insecurity.

i agree with you. Rose would of wanted what was best for the Doctor; both Martha and Donna were there to offer him support and friendship when Rose was not able to herself. I would love for her to have a scene with just the two other companions that is just sweet and kind. I know other fans out there want a companion-war, for lack of a better term, but I think it would be so much more moving and better for the series if it showed the three women as mature adults bound together with their care and concern for the Doctor. After all he is pretty fabulous :)

Yeah, that's how I'd like to see it played, too -- especially in light of Rose's little speech in "Doomsday," just before the Doc tries to send her off to Pete's World, about how much the Doctor does, all alone, and how she refuses to abandon him (I'm paraphrasing, since it's been a while).

I think Rose learned a lot from meeting Sarah Jane, and I'd like to see that reflected in this season.

Thing on Donna's back...

...you might want to read my latest post...the one about S4 episode 5...then again...you might NOT want to read it. Certainly, I think there is a link between the Noble Lady and the Valient Child. And I feel that Rose is definitely trying to get through to the Doctor and is hitting Donna by mistake.

You could be right about the idea of Rose "on her back" as in harrying her. I am wondering if there is something literally on her back...like a growth or something. But lately...I'm thinking...it's a weight...a burden...she's carrying.
