I had to turn it off because it started giving really big spoilers away about the series. But I do like that the conversation got really out in the open about the Doctor fancying people. And I love the way David got a little squirmy on the spot there about sex and Rose. For those of you avoiding spoilers...really...I can't say what else happened after about 6 minutes into the 28 but that was more than enough for me to turn it off. So, I am obviously choosing to wait to listen to this until later...

...but when pressed about the Rose/Doctor relationship...David gives his usual comments about it definitely being a love story. The interesting thing here was that the conversation was skirting the sexuality issues, too. Which sort of settles the whole "who would the Doctor sleep with" question...because apparently, David just doesn't want any of us to think that the Doctor was shagging Rose in the TARDIS. He said, "We like to remain ambiguous about that." And talked about it being a love story without "the nasty bits"...and well, the main things is...he's definitely taking a very firm stand on Rose being the one the Doctor loves and I liked that we are presented with the idea that it is no longer "controversial." Hmmmm? Really?

There you go! Ask and someone around here will provide. And while you may not mind spoilers...I and most of my people are...so don't share anything with us.

I was a bit devastated by the amount of information we are getting about this season in the pre-series interviews. It used to be everyone was completely clammed up but now they are in share mode.

The only thing I will say is it all fits in nicely with my master plan...in that so far, I've heard nothing that wasn't something I would have done...though I am, no doubt, extrapolating far too much out of what I've heard. If that makes any sense to you at all.

What I mean is...if you are the sort of person who likes spoilers...what means a great deal to me...probably won't mean much at all to you.

So true. He'll be shocked when we recognize him.

What was the word he used about Who fans in a recent interview? Enthusiastic. Yes. That'll be us.

He'll be all "But there's Patrick Stewart! Over there!" and we'll be "...wha? Could you ruffle your hair and recite a few lines, please?"

LOL, don't worry, I wasn't planning to post any spoilers here! I know you've been avoiding them like the plague!

That sucks that you've been getting accidentally spoiled by all the interviews. Sorry!

Well, it seems that the DW fandom is being loose-lipped to balance out the BSG fandom, where all spoilers have vanished into thin air. RDM has really cracked down this year, so it's been a very long dry spell for us spoiler whores.

Thanks again for the info! I enjoy your thoughts and comments on DW, always.

I enjoyed the interview.
(And really, DT was very discreet.)

BTW, did you see him last week on the Friday Night Project? I couldn't decide if he was rewarding "Frankie's" audacity, or punishing her for it.

That sort of spoiler doesn't bother me. On the other hand again...one of the morning shows gave a whole lot of information to me. For the amount of spoiling I'm getting just in the opening of this series...I hope I am rewarded with my happy-for-her-lifetime scenario...because I don't even feel like speculating any further than I already have.

My feeling is...I've held one position the entire time...everything is in place for my position to prove to be the right one...and if they screw it up now...well...I just don't want to know about it.

david's a total doctor/rose shipper, but with doctor who being a kids show and all, he can't exactly talk about the doctor's extra-curricular tardis activities. although, apparently, while he's doing the deed he likes to be called 'the master'. hmm. oh, david.

Oh, yes...David is very consistent about his shipper nature. And Billie is very consistent as well. For that matter...Russell is a very consistent Rose/Doctor shipper. It's only a few hard-nosed old timers and Rose-haters who seem to miss the point on this topic. But David said in print this summer that he didn't think the Doctor would sleep with any of his companions. And the debate was...did he mean..."I don't think the Doctor has that kind of feeling for anyone." Or did he mean..."The Doctor wasn't shagging anyone in the TARDIS." And this squirming seemed to me to settle the issue...he doesn't want it to look like the Doctor is a slutboy. And you know...there's nothing wrong with a children's hero saving himself for the right woman...now is there?

This weekend won't save you. Or...maybe it will...I suppose we will have to see what happens. This is what bothered me...he talks about the full 13 episode arc. And I was sorry I heard it before I saw anything.

My advice is to wait...yes. And see if we get something very arc-defining in the first episode. WE COULD! From the trailers I've seen...I believe we could get something. And I've had my own ideas for some time about where the show should go next...but, I think it is best to wait.

It was just really that he was pressed by the host to admit to the Doctor "fancying" Rose...to be quite definite that Rose was the one the Doctor loved. And it was presented...partially BY DAVID...as sexual...rather than just "he likes her a lot." David squirmed and denied any hanky-panky but he obviously seemed to be considering the idea and admitted...yes, it is that sort of love. Then the host launched into asking for specifics about Rose and S4 and David gave him more than I wanted to hear in one line...so I shut it off.

I'm going back and forth between listening and not listening to it. I just now downloaded and... maybe... I can start listening to tit and stop as soon as I feel like I know too much or they start talking about stuff htat I already know.

It is rather surprising just how much information DT, and CT to an extent, are giving away since I would think the BBC would have a list (as was mentioned and/or possibly joked about in a previous interview a couple of days ago) of what to talk about and what to stay away from...

Thanks for the info!! :D

I think there are things they are intentionally not telling us. Like a sort of open book to be closed book about things. If they tried to hide the casting info...people would be all over it. But if they say...oh, yes, these people will be out on the streets think nothing of it. Then the press isn't going to do as much digging. It isn't really "NEWS" anymore. Like when they admitted that the Master was back last year...they managed to keep a lot of the details of it underwraps. The papers and the interviews tended to focus just on the Master part.

This time...the press is focusing on Billie...but they probably feel, and rightly so, that with Catherine Tate sitting there...they can't go on and on about Billie. So, the whole thing gets shoved under the carpet without anyone denying much. It's actually a rather good plan...give the people stuff to chew on and they stop sniffing around for tidbits.

Yeah I've definitely noticed the difference especially when comparing this interview to that of the ones that happened earlier in the morning over in the UK with CT in attendance.

And I'm totally for it if they can keep the big big secrets close to them and not have them leaked anywhere online.

Awww. They should really learn to say "Spoiler alert, turn it down if you want to know..." I know some tv networks do that and it would be great is radio can do that as well.

Its funny XD; Spoilers to me aren't spoiled until someone goes "OMG I saw this episode of Doctor WHO and the Daleks force the Doctor to save ROSE and ROSE becomes Badwolf and then Badwolf forces the Doctor to regurgitate and then Rose... blah blah" You know what I mean.

I don't mind casting spoilers so much, but I COMPLETELY COMPLETELY COMPLETELY understand your reasoning. Its a "right to know" not "forced to know" thing. If you see a link that says "Spoiler" you can click. If not... and you click and something is spoiled (like S1 of Robin Hood BBC and every single HP book since #3 - gotta love the people that go "OMG did you read the latest HP?" "No... not yet." "OMG there's this scene with Snape and Dumbledore and ... blah blah blah" 8 years at that store... still cant' bring myself to read the books. Those spoilers pissed me off too much.)

Anyway, I digress... If I ask, its one thing, if its thrown in my face. I get pissy. XD;;; I'm glad you are taking such a firm stand on this!

ANnnnnnnnnd... thanks for informing us of the interview! XD I'm gonna go listen!!! <3~ *nerdgasm*

I adore that he used the phrase "nasty bits." Totally made me have a flashback to watching a movie with my friend and her little brother - he kept going, "They're kissing again? Ew!" and covering his face with his hands. XD

Actually a lot like in the Princess Bride, now that I think about it - "Is this a kissing book?" Oh no: it's got sword fights and torture and fireswamps galore...and it just also happens to be an epic story of true love (and the kiss that surpassed all other great kisses in the history of the world - can we draw some more parallels here?).

(When he was saying, "As you wish," "Rose Tyler," what he was really saying was, "I love you."...)

Well...it was very close. It was "Your wish is my command" and it meant, "I love you."

And "But be careful what you wish for" meant, "But ixnay on the agshay in the ARDISTay because this is a kiddie show."

I liked the use of the phrase "nasty bits" as well. I like how open ended it is too...just as you say like Princess Bride...because there might be some fancying going on somewhere...but the story is about the fireswamps and fighting.

I too am surprised by the amount of pre-airing talking that's been going on in Whoville recently.

I watched some of David's recent FNP appearance over on youtube and I spazzed a little when he flat out admitted to the companion round-up. It wasn't anything I hadn't heard before (casting spoilers are very hard to avoid), but I was shocked that there was no playing coy at all. I guess they decided there was no use denying it given all the pictures and info that's been flying all over the internetz anyways? Weird. They better live up to all the hopes they've been raising though.

See? This is the thing. We have this huge expectation, now. And can they meet it? I mean...I do think they can. In fact, it would boggle my mind if RTD has done all of this work (years of it...3 seasons...) to establish that the Doctor and Rose could have a life together...and he manages to get Billie back...and then, somehow, it all goes horribly wrong and he tries to teach us all some lame lesson about suffering and self-reliance.

I am a Doctor Who fan from day one of Old School...and that's a lot of history riding on just a few episodes of New School. Prior to this I would have said there was nothing that could rock my loyalty to the Doctor. But, I tell you, I won't be all...oh, well, life goes on if they wreck my ship...I will be burning some DVDs. :mad cackles of laughter:

If RTD does that he will be dead to me. I mean really isn't that pretty much what Doomsday was? We don't need to learn that again.

It'd be like Starbuck and Apollo finally fraking only for her to run off and marry someone else... oh wait! And yet somehow I'm still ridiculously excited about there finally being a new ep tonight. I blame D*Con and Jamie being adorable in person.

I do think that last season was one of the worst travesties of writing I've ever seen. I mean, the systematically destroyed my interest in every single character except Helo. And I imagine Helo will turnout to be the final Cylon and so complete the set of character assassinations. But...still...I will watch because the show is very interesting in its complete dysfunction.

I do believe the ratings hemmorage was because of what they did as far as skipping around in the story and totally destroying every character...but I think I will still watch without caring. Partly because...it was hard to care for these people to begin with. All Ron did was make it flat out impossible to care. I do hate feeling nothing about Starbucks reappearance last time but..."Oh, yeah, figured that was coming."

I do admire Jamie though...because he did make me feel a little clutch in the chest during that hug in the ad. He and Katee could suck me back in...if they had even half a chance with the scripts.

BSG is a totally different type of show than Who. It's all about how frakked up and broken down the characters are. Which is interesting, but only to a point and RDM is certainly pushing it. I don't need pink fluffy bunnies but hope is a good thing.

I thought some of the writing was awful (honestly I'd be happy if the only time I ever saw Baltar again was when they finally explain the head/chip/vision thing) and RDM's insistence on the Quadrangle of Doom certainly dragged a lot down with it. But I like geeking out over a show's mythology so the Final five thing dragged me in (Tory is a huge cop-out).

The skipping around in the story didn't bother me too much, but the huge holes they left (like actually debriefing the survivors of New Caprica instead of just expecting them to magically return to normal) did. Starbuck's return was one of those things I was unable to avoid being spoiled for so I wasn't as surprised/excited/shocked as I might have been and that whole "All Along the Watchtower" thing... oy.

RDM get's a pass for now because Aaron and Jamie made the beginning of the season sound really interesting and I'm hoping to actually get some answers. But if he screws up I might have to pretend that things ended around S1. ;-)

This is funny, because we were discussing this in the newsroom at work.I think we shippers love the idea of the Doctor and Rose getting their groove on and if this was Torchwood, we'd see it, but on this show, they aren't going to go there. I think if it happened, it would be implied and nothing else. We would all be left confused wondering, "did they or didn't they?".
Still this is alot more than what has been done in the past. In the old days of Who noone ever really fell in love with the Doctor and he didn't fall for anyone either. Sure it was implied that he had feelings for Sarah Jane, but as soon as the Doc felt something he sent her packing. He didn't even kiss anyone until later series and even that was a stretch for him. These days the Doctor wants to fall in love. They used to say that it would never happen. So times have changed in the Doctor's world and anything's possible.

Off Topic-Someone said that David commented about the low veiwership in America. If they put in on broadcast TV everyone could see it. You have to watch it on BBC America which you can get if you pay for it. You also have the option of recording it off the Sci-fi Channel at the ass-crack of dawn.Seriously American TV execs should've gone with it when the series started. Doctor Who is better TV than half the crap we've got going.
