Dreamweaver weave me a dream

So...I attended my first ever Dreamweaver class. And learned that I no longer needed to know HTML code to make kicking web-pages. Gone are the days of creating your own anchors and nesting tables, my friends. On the other hand...I also learned why, as a writer, I live in a different world from my web-designing pals. See...I don't want to take all of my writing to notepad. I don't like having my italics (now called Emphasis) and bold (now called Strong) changed. I don't like the way a wordpad document looks. I don't care if it is easier to code to a webpage. :phhtffft:

Surely there must be a compromise...I think. And there is...Dreamweaver has a clean up code function. YAY! Now, I can enjoy the beauty of Word XP and yet have it coded nicely for web publishing. Not that I do a lot of web publishing...but if I could afford Dreamweaver...maybe I would do more.

I like Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Took some classes, too.

The function you are looking for is "Clean up Word html". There's a clean up function, but one separate for Word.

Yep! That's the one I mean. The main thing is it will let me write in Word and still create a clean webpage experience. Because...writing in Notepad is a pain...but not as huge a pain as translating your lovely Word to Wordpad and finding you've lost all of your coding.

Oh, good! I can learn from you! I have to learn this on my own at work to get a web site up (no training available) and I've got about a week to do it. I've only ever used Front Page before. I've got some existing web page code I borrowed and am going to learn by manipulating that into what I want it to look like. Now if only I could figure out how to do popups from an HTML table on my comm's LJ.

Did I give the impression I knew what I was doing, yet? If so, I have pulled the wool over your eyes. I've only had one class. I am hoping to get a chance to practice with it before my second class next month. It is very neat and I think I would take to web designing with Dreamweaver...but still...while I would certainly be willing to share my little all with you...I would be remiss if I didn't tell you to seek help elsewhere.

I was trying to be semi-funny in sharing the pain and joy of learning Dreamweaver. I wish I could go to a class. At best, I'm hoping I can snag one of the "gurus" at work and see if they'll at least show me the ropes.

If you have a book (other than the user/developer manual) for your class, and you think it's any good, I'll be interested to know what the title is. I need to see if I can find a good "Dreamweaver for Dummies" kinda thing.

You didn't pull any wool nor did I think you were trying to. My glee in finding someone to commiserate (sp?) with got the better of me.

My teacher actively discouraged us from looking at Dreamweaver for Dummies. However, she did give us loads of cheats online to check. Which I will happily share with you.

I took the Web Page Design (Dreamweaver) class to learn html, not to learn dreamweaver. It is way too expensive to go out and buy it for casual web page design, so I tried not to rely on the program during the class.

It's so very very good at making web pages though. I miss it. =(
