Hot Fuzz Fans?
Aug. 9th, 2007 01:19 amI just watched Hot Fuzz for the third time in as many days. I completely adore this movie. Not everyone feels as I do. My SO loved the whole set up but didn't care for the climax. He's not a fan of mindless violence. But my love is centered around it NOT being mindless violence at all.
Okay, I'm bordering on spoilers here...so under the cut I go...for more gushing and a question or two for my fellow fans...
What I loved, loved, loved...beyond the rotfl, fish out of water, parts of the movie...was the way they paid homage to action films through the ages. Far from being mindless, I thought the violence was pointed satire. I loved the way nobody gets seriously wounded despite all of the bullets flying. And I loved the references to great action sequences from other films.
References I caught were the obvious ones to Silent Rage (with Michael) and Bad Boys and Point Break. I also got Fistful of Dollars with the toothpick and the horse and bandelero. I got two Lethal Weapon moments, jumping through the air with guns blazing and the shot in the chest moment of bonding. And I know that slow motion helicopter overhead is from something...but I can't remember what film it is.
So...a few questions...1) Can you name more films that they pay tribute to? 2)What film is that slow motion helicopter shot from? 3)And the fake out to the gravestone...?
And a final question...
Wasn't that entire movie so completely LOL funny?
