The Doctor Loves Rose
Jul. 14th, 2007 09:43 pmExcuse my crankiness...or...if you don't like cranky...just move along...
I spent a few hours today singing the same old song about all of the points where Martha is compared to Rose and comes up short...about the many ways in which Russell shows us that Ten is completely cold and rude and not very nice at all to people who are NOT Rose (or part of Rose's family). What about Reinette? Huh? What about her? She's lumped into the journal with everyone else. The fact that he cares about her isn't in question. She kissed him and he was happily flustered and he was going to show her a star. But SHE was the one who called out "No!" as he rushed away. And the offer he made her was the same one he made to Donna and Martha and every other companion. It's all he has to give. He cares about Martha, too. And Donna. And Jack. And Harriet Jones. And Sarah Jane. But he leaves them all behind. They are not part of his "forever." Rose is.
So, I explained again...what should not have to be explained at all to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to the S1, S2 and S3 canon. Nor, should I have to explain that whatever you THINK happened in Old School canon between the Doctor and ANYONE else...nothing ACTUALLY happened that in any way compared to the level of intensity that occurs with Rose. Make all the excuses you want for that...but it's still the truth. Just as it is also the truth that several writers for the show, two producers, the creative force behind the show and all three principle actors...believe the Doctor loves Rose.
Today, I even defended the idea that YES, I do believe Russell T. Davies has a say in what the Doctor feels and who he feels it for...because, guess what? Russell is the writer/producer and all around guru who brought Doctor Who back to roaring life...again. He's the TV producer that took a stand on this issue...no other producer did...ever.
If you don't like it that the Doctor loves Rose...sorry! I wish things had worked out differently for you...maybe in the future they will. But if you can't see what Russell is SAYING...then maybe you should turn down the volume on the show playing inside your head...or take to wearing a tin foil hat. But by all means...before you do that...wank this...because I'm sure the voices in your head have told you you must.
And btw, I know my comments are turned off. This is because I'm not debating this with anyone...not because you've got some sterling point to make that will shatter me but because this isn't one of those things that is open to debate...this is one of those things you can look up and find to be true.

not talking about you, PB...but another person I ran smack into just after the long explanation for you...when I was particularly tired and cranky.
