Spoilers for Battlestar Galactica's Lay Down Your Burdens Part 1
And a possible explanation for all things...sans spoilers...DO NOT SPOIL ME...
God in the Machine. It was a staple of Greek drama. A last minute saving of the day by a higher power. And it is often derided by critics today. But is it a trite device when it is this carefully and beautifully orchestrated?
How positively creative to turn the idea of Deus ex Machina on its head. If, indeed, that is what's happening here...I can only applaud Ron Moore and company...because he gave us every opportunity to see it.
Let me stress...I don't know what's going to happen...I am unspoiled.
PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL ME.
I haven't looked at the spoilers because I honestly believe the show has been trying to tell us something for a long time now. Something just ain't right in Galacticaland. People are behaving oddly. Odd things are happening.
Just to name a few...Kara is no longer top gun and she took up drinking like Tigh. She despises Tigh. Lee who despises Ellen Tigh...turned into her. Adama who hates the cylons and never let their technology get a foothold on his ship even after the war was over for twenty years...is wiring up Sharon to a network of Raptors. Laura is cured of her cancer in about ten minutes. Baltar is suddenly sane. Zarek is suddenly giving up on his politcal aspirations. Kara is obsessed by a man she hasn't thought of in months. Dee dumps Billy and she has Kara's picture of Lee in her locker (What? In space not only can no one can hear you scream...they also can't take your photo?) And we keep skipping through time and having false memories inserted into our "previously"s.
So...how did this happen? Well...in true Deus Ex Machina tradition we had a moment when all seemed lost. In Res. Ship 2. There was a moment when everyone who was anyone was about to die. The Cylons were going to die...since they lost their Resurrection Ship. Laura is about to die of cancer. Lee is about to run out of oxygen. Kara is going on a suicide mission to kill Cain (and probably several of her command crew in the firefight). Fisk is on a similar suicide mission (though he might have a chance with the marines) to kill Adama and all of his command crew. Helo and Tyrol are awaiting execution.
So...who or what is the God? And is it literally in the machine...GALACTICA? If it is...that would explain why Tryol is the first to crack. His sensitivity to all things mechanical may be cluing him into the problem. Or it could have something to do with his mother being an oracle...maybe Tyrol is a little psychic. And if Galactica has developed a life or Godhood...that appears to be Dean Stockwell...where did it come from?
Well...how about from the pregnant cylon who plugged into Galactica right before things started going really screwy?
I'm thinking things are going to get much weirder in LDYB pt.2...and then other people than Tyrol will start to crack. Kara and Lee have already been pushed pretty far. Laura and Adama may be facing the loss of power. Baltar may be facing exposure by Caprica Six. I don't know...I'm just guessing in the dark...but I'm guessing...something's just not right here.
I think we are all supposed to be asking ourselves...WHAT THE HELL?

**Edit of this to clear something up:
I don't mean this is like the Matrix and everyone is in a cell (or in Cylon terms: boxed) somewhere...and the entire show is an illusion. I mean that things have been rewinding and resetting since Res. Ship 2. Maybe since Sharon plugged into Galactica. And S2.5 has been largely misinterpreted by the viewing audience. We need more information to understand it. Tyrol and Brother Cavel are trying to give us that information. I think maybe Galactica is becoming sentient and is trying to tell the crew something via dreams and false memories. Tyrol's conversation with Brother Cavel could still be part of his dream.
One of the many things that struck me as odd this season...is that Kara is supposed to love Anders...and we are doing all of these fake previously on moments to make her obsess about him...but...when they have the chance to do a fake moment from The Farm they don't do one. That strikes me as odd...what about a moment with Kara and Anders bonding to the point where we can believe she loves him and not Lee?
Maybe that's because THE FARM happened before the time slipping thing. So those events can't be changed.
