First, my Teen Wolf - Sterek, PWP is back from the beta babes and only awaits my time and attention to comma correction. Second, I am so happy that last night's episode underscored the themes for my fic, perfectly.
Me and my speculating buddies have been batting 1000 so far this season. And, typically of this show...when I'm wrong about something...I don't think my idea was better. Jeff has better idea than me.
I mean...come on...how rare is that, you guys? Jeff Davis sends me on this happy dance of speculation, and fic creation, and then...he delivers something that while it doesn't surprise me...isn't what I thought, either.
My buddy Jenn was right about a major thing, and so were a lot of other people, but I didn't agree. And then, Jeff and company write it and I think...no...that's a better idea, Jeff. Good job. I might be in love with a headwriter...at long last.
So...the fight at the hospital...pretty typical battle episode. The power shifts back and forth. But let's talk specifics. Starting with that threat of flood...and Deucalion (the mythological figure of the flood) and his connection to the Holy Thunder. I have been expecting a flood warning, and it has arrived. Then, there is Kali, the figure of destruction and birth and her moment of weakness. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's talk about Jennifer Blake...a black and white figure, from her namesake. A figure betrayed from Julia and Julius Caesar. Yes, Jeff, you are giving us too many clues with the names. Still, it is fun to figure out how he will manifest the name in the show.
Jennifer...and her first scene with Derek. WOW! Great job from the actress, going from sweet and pleading to completely monstrous. And I love how Jeff still uses that little bit of "off" in her. As if Derek is worried about her "true face" being less than attractive, when she's butchered half the town. Or...as if he will just go, these two boys are so imaginative...silly kids! My friend was pointing out that she has a Psychotic attraction to Derek...but I am going to apply my fic logic to it. I feel emissaries might have this attraction to/for werewolves (spoiler there for Sterek Fic to come)...and we do see that Julia/Kali is a thing. Meanwhile, my Jennifer is Paige theory might still have some legs to stand on...given Paige was sacrificed under that tree...and Jennifer knows it. It was Paige's spirit that sustained Julia...so the Derek devotion could come from there as well. Or...perhaps the power only comes from the Tree if Julia helps Derek. Not sure.
The tree! What I called The World Tree. It is the Druid tree myths at work, the trees have their own god-life and the nemeton is the sacred grove, and very powerful and...there it is again. I knew that Jennifer's power came from that tree, or perhaps the grove. She will sacrifice the Guardians there. That is why Lydia kept drawing it. And why we had the Paige story. And I think Mr. Lightning Bolts Deucalion knows how to kill a tree, too. Then, disaster will strike Beacon Hills in 3B. Though, considering someone cut the tree down, maybe disaster is already striking.
Melissa McCall! Give it up for EmEmCee! We have that lovely "Do you know how to use those?" set-up from Derek to Stiles. And then, Melissa puts her medical training to work. And her cool, yet terrified, way with the supernatural. She's going to be such a helpmate for the Sheriff as Stiles embraces his emissary ways. And she's just such a great mom.
Stiles and Cora...Holy Transference, Batman. Okay, Cora is seventeen...and a girl. So I can so see Stiles and her flirting, dating, kissing. But, I can't help thinking it plays right into the Sterek fans hands, given she is Derek's sister. It is like the P.C. Option. Still, I like Cora so I will be happy to see her live. I do think that the "Derek, come on" we hear from Stiles could be in a similar situation to what we saw in this episode with Cora. Derek needing mouth-to-mouth even. And nobody can complain, given Stiles just knows how to give mouth-to-mouth. If that happens, hats off to Jeff again.
Nobody plays the ambiguous shipper card like Jeff. This episode paired almost everyone you could pair. I mean...Melissa/Peter even. How many of us had forgotten about them? How many of us went...wait? She doesn't know about Peter?
So, going into the finale...Scott goes to the dark side. The question is: Is this all part of his plan B? Does he figure he stands the best chance of finding and saving his mom if he goes with Deuc, because Jennifer is so loony?
Personally, I feel we might be setting up for Dark!Scott in 3B. I don't think he will go all the way into the dark. But, I would love to see Dark!Scott and Gerard as our two menaces in 3B. Scott could start rebeling, misbehaving, treating people badly. He could take up with Lydia (off that hand hold moment)...and flaunt it...thus hurting Stiles and Allison enough for them to go to Cora and Isaac respectively. He could be disresptful to his mom and Deaton...thus pushing Deaton to train Stiles. He could just get himself in all sorts of trouble, off the idea of PTSD from his mom being taken? We could wonder if Gerard's darkness poisoned Scott...or if it was Deucalion...or if Scott is playing some deeper game. Love tested all around, by this idea. I like it. Scott fighting off the duality of his nature...like the two bands on his arm...he's got a dark side to balance all of that "True Alpha" power. And, like any savior figure, he must be tempted by the dark. On top of that...Scary Scott...is scary. And powerless Derek...would be powerless. I do wonder if Cora has a dark secret, too. We don't know how she survived...and now...Derek is going to save her. I feel a bad moon arising! I feel there's trouble on the way.

Date: 2013-08-06 09:16 pm (UTC)I'm not certain I can make any predictions for the next two episodes, or even 3B. I feel as you do about our Jennifer/Paige predictions, that they are entwined in some way, although they may not be the same person. It is clear that the 'sacrifice' of Paige was instrumental in saving Blake, perhaps she does carry her spirit within her, it would explain the accelerated rate of the relationship. If that is the case, maybe Paige will work her way to the surface and help save the day, just a thought really. I think the sacrifices will take place under the tree, and that the three guardians will be Mrs McCall, the Sheriff and Chris Argent. I also think she will try to do this on the lunar eclipse, as this is when the wolves lose their power. But as for what her end game is, I'm still not sure. She wants to get rid of the Alpha pack, but how? just kill them? Perhaps the idea of the sacrifices is to transform her somehow, because she has powers of her own already, she can heal, she is strong and can be in two places at the same time. What more does she want?
