Kentucky Derby 2013 Finish
I shall put this under a spoiler cut...just in case...
So, as I said, Orb is a beautiful animal. And he ran a strong race. My horse had the worst break I've seen from him, and I've seen some pretty bad starts. But, I think the real killer was the jockey angling him toward the inside like that. We lost so much ground with that move. I shall need to see the replay, but I felt he was bound to be stymied by speed horses coming back to him.
However, Orb took a real hit from a horse lugging out and ran a longer distance and won this handily. He will have a much easier trip in the Preakness. So, we are probably looking again at a situation where we must ask if he can get the distance of the Belmont. He looked tired to me at the end. But I think they were all pretty tuckered.
I won 72 dollar and lost 60 on that one. Wish I had listened to myself about how beautiful Orb was. But I had my horse going in and I am not sorry about that. I think he is just a drama queen of horse, breaking slow and then the jockey did the wrong thing by taking him to the rail, when he had to get around horses.
