I haven't commented in a very long time but I've been following every word you write I assure you!! I apologize for long comment that will follow...
First I love the I&B fic, I love everything you write but this especially heals my heart from the damage caused by End of Time. The random alternate ending scene I made a while back reminded me of Wild Geese...and I never realized it until I started reading I&B. I will wait patiently for the next chapter!!
Second, after reading your reaction of the new DW series I cautiously decided to give it another try...I actually watched it backwards for some reason...but I am so relieved Clara is the new companion. As great as I'm sure people found the stories of the Ponds and River, I just couldn't stand it. Especially River. Clara brings new life into the show for me, I feel excited to watch...not for the doctor's story though (he still annoys me sometimes)...but for hers and now the Doctor is tolerable again! She is my 3rd favorite companion (Rose-Donna-Clara) and I love her chemistry with the doctor...not romantic in any way....I see a brother/sister/relative bond playing out. She's always treating him like her dorky brother and I think that is awesome. I also find it extremely weird they are making all these Rose-Doctor references in the episodes, I've had a flashback so many times so far I think I've got a severe case of mental whiplash, even the dialogue is similar:
Hide: The Doctor: What's wrong? Clara: Did we just watch the entire life cycle of earth, birth to death? The Doctor: Yes. Clara: And you're okay with that? The Doctor: Yes. Clara: How can you be? The Doctor: The TARDIS. She's time. With re-vortex, and so on.
Clara: To you I'm a ghost. We're all ghosts to you, we must be nothing. The Doctor: No, no you're not that. Clara: Then what are we, what can we possibly be. The Doctor: You are the only mystery worth solving.
That whole conversation brought back references from 'End of the World' where Rose watches the Earth die and 'School Reunion' where they talk about how she's going to get left behind like everyone else but she's not. Except Eleven tells Clara she's important..not in a romantic way..but as family. The -in your face- space suit was obnoxious but I like that Clara puts him in his place, "It makes my eyes hurt" comment was awesome. .
...In the end I do hope your idea is the one that plays out. I would love for Clara to be his grand-daughter and I think its the perfect fit for the show right now. Also, no spoilers in saying this, when you watch "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS"....I think Moff is stealing your ideas....*disheveled flashback*. o_O Thanks for getting me back into DW slowly but surely.
