Her drive to return was motivated by her knowledge of how much he needed her and the harm he would do alone. She knew him too well to allow the universe to take that risk. In returning to him, Rose takes the difficult path, not the easy one.

To me, Rose embodied all of this strength. And RTD never backs off of that, he does have her pull away from her easy consolation prize and run after her man. He also edits that kiss down from the one everyone wanted to see, making it more of an impulsive gesture, rather than a settlement. And, most of all, he has Rose and the Doctor argue that the Doctor needs her.

Then, he follows through on having the Doctor go really bad. I think, because I'm such a fan of Rose, I often fail to make my position about her clear. I don't just randomly hate other companions. I loved pretty much all of them except Mel in Old School. And I have loved Donna and Clara in the New Who. But, to me, the simple dedication that is shown to the loves story with Rose, works to set that story apart. Trying to make a love story the center of the show...forever...hasn't worked.

This is part of why I pull for the great, great, great granddaughter idea for Clara. Only, I have a sinking feeling she might be Ten2's daughter. Almost, given what we know about Susan...that she seemed to be part human or able to adjust to humans better than he could...her whole "I was born in another place"...I could buy that she was Ten2 and Rose's daughter, if I could buy Rose giving up on Ten. But after looking and looking for a way to reconcile Rose, the only way I see is if Ten 2 is really Ten...and the being that did that to Donna...wasn't really the Doctor anymore. And, then, of course, all of the decent into childish behavior with Eleven, would make some sort of sense.

Because, yes, as you say, his character has been regressing. And he's not much of a hero, for a man who keeps claiming to be a God. And yes, he objectifies Clara. Something I am not convinced Moff even realizes he's doing.

But, with all of that said, at least this S7 Eleven is acting more like an adult....a grandfather figure, perhaps...slightly dotty...but less objectionable than when he's being so flippant about his childishness.

who would eat a whole pile of crow if Moff actually showed some responsible behavior toward are venerable Doctor. But I can't see him doing anything but some slight of hand in the end.
