I think, maybe, with the Apocalypse, all the weaker demons and monsters got killed off, and now its the stronger ones (the Alphas) that are back and trying to repopulate the world. Of course the Alpha would want his babies, he needs them now that his underlings are all dead.

I'm really not sure what to make of Samuel and who the higher up was he's talking to, or why. I suggested to another fan last week, that maybe this is Sam still as Lucifer's meat suit and it's the only way he can remain sane when someone else has taken over his body. We'ver never seen what it's like for the possessed person. Maybe he's creating scenarios. I have my doubts as the show goes on, but should be interesting.
