But she won't even be reading it until after I've toddled off to bed for my nightly tossing and turning.

So...by all means, anyone else who watched So You Think You Can Dance...please join me below the cut.

I have spoiler results for tonight. So BEWARE! But, for the most part, I want to play a new game called, "Where will the votes go, now?"

So, I have called it right for once. Billy and Jose are out. Of course, as soon as Lauren was the name and not Robert...all of the drama waltzed out the front door. There was no way those judges would send Lauren home if she wasn't injured. I think what happened was that voters may have gotten discouraged by that last minute injury announcement for Lauren at the end of last night's show. Fans might have simply given up on her. I know I was all, "OMG! Now, she's going? This show sucks this season." And I completely forgot to vote at all.

But, let's assume these results are for real and Lauren isn't in there with Kent as a finalist. Where do we see the Billy and Jose votes going now? I am not sure about Billy voters. I could see them going with Kent because he's got a similar style. Or I can see them going with Adechike because of his flawless lines and impeccable training. People that liked Billy probably are not going to be put off by a spot of dullness. So, I think Adechike has a good shot at pulling in votes. Robert and Billy have been linked from the moment they were picked for the show, of course, so Robert could also pull some voters here.

The real question is where do the Jose voters go? Do they go to Kent on the popularity and engaging smile front? Are they voting along street sense lines? And who would that be in the remaining group? Not Lauren or Kent...but really not the other two either. I think a good percentage of the Jose voters are going to vote Kent now or Robert. Both of them play to the cameras and that is primarily what kept Jose in the hunt.

I wonder how many people, when their favourite is voted off, just stop voting. I'm one of those people (though I have not voted at all this season).

I thought it was interesting that the first time Jose fell into the bottom was the first week the judges actually criticized him. It makes me think that maybe Jose got a lot of votes from people who vote for who the judges convince them they should. I'd imagine the votes will go to Robert because the judges have steadily increased their vote for Robert agenda and it finally worked where he wasn't in the bottom and he had been always been in the bottom since like week 2.

I think Kent's fan base is stable - not growing but not losing either. It's like the Evan fans from a few years ago. They liked him since Vegas and would vote for him no matter what but there is only so many and eventually their votes are not enough.

Adechike is the weird one because I can't figure out who is voting for him. He's never been in the bottom. I guess he could be pulling older voters because if you don't want to vote for Kent/Lauren high school prom style dancing then you are left with Adechike (I don't think Robert danced all that maturely in the beginning so he lost out maybe on those fans).

I wouldn't think it's out of the question that maybe Adechike could win. The show has had 2 black male dancers win and 3 more as runner up. Adechike is more in the mold of the winners than the runners up. In reality, the last white male winner was Benji. Maybe Kent is like Benji, but I don't think so because a large part of Benji's appeal was his partnering with Donyelle.

Lauren could maybe have a Sabra/Jeanene thing, but I didn't really see her exploding like they did. I wonder if maybe being the only girl will work against her. Sort of like over exposure. Week after week all we get for female dancing is Lauren and that can be tiring.

I totally feel special for almost getting an exclusive post just for me!

I think that you could be right and many people do stop voting. I usually transfer my allegiance. But I must say that I lost heart when Lauren got injured. I think I lost heart for the whole show after Alex was injured. Not that I voted for him regularly, but it was a downer to have someone leave that way and he was developing into one of the most watchable dancers.

I also feel that Adechike could be a dark horse in this race. But something does tell me that he hasn't got Kent's broad base appeal. Kent is a good dancer, you can see it in his side by side work with most of the all stars. Lauren is also very appealing, but I don't think she is growing as much as the judges claim. And I think you could be write about over exposure due to her being the only girl. You are definitely spot on about Robert losing early votes to immaturity. I started voting for him a few weeks ago, because I thought he really didn't belong in the bottom three. But lately, I've supported him because I think he's turned in some nuanced and mature performances.

I am not sure about your "vote like the judges tell you" theory. But I do know that getting the "star treatment" from the show does appear to give a dancer the edge. Kent's story in auditions touched a cord with me and I have followed him through most of the season. I do think that he's more gifted than Benji as a dancer. Even his work to tone down his golly gee exuberance has seemed far more genuine than previous "crowd favorite" dancers. He did try to control his mugging during that dance with Anya, despite Mia's continuing to harp on it.

Harpy about covers it with her. I am so over Mia. Why won't she go away? Her brand of choreography is getting overworked as well. I could totally tell that opening number was her. And on one level I feel bad for her, because I doubt she was ever a popular person and I think she lets that influence a lot of her art and comments. Being an odd ball myself, I can relate, but I also feel that there is nothing to be gained by allowing bitterness to take root in you. And I think Mia has allowed her pain to take root and she lets it lash out at others.

I would be interested in seeing if the total number of votes decreased significantly after Alex left, because the way this season was cast he was the only contender. And I was talking about this a week or so ago, but it probably comes down to maturity. Alex was not 18. I think a lot of these young dancers would be better served making them wait until they are more mature. The audience would be better served as well. I would love to see someone like Billy dance in a few years.

I would also love to see Kent dance in a few years. Right now, his dancing just lacks maturity and unlike Robert he has not matured his dancing while on the show (though I do not doubt he has tried and seems like a really sweet kid).

Personality has always won out on this show, which I have come to just accept and it doesn't bother me anymore. However, I don't think Kent's personality has enough of a broad appeal actually. His type has not won in years (since Benji). I think the voting over the years has played out to show that the voters like some diversity (not just in race but also gender, dance style, personality, etcc...) Maybe this is where Jose got votes. He got votes from people who did not want to vote for a contemporary dancer. This maybe where Adechike gets an advantage and Jose's votes. Yes, he is contemporary but he's the only drop of diversity left. I just think Kent appeals to too narrow of a fan base.

Also, hip hop is one of the more popular dances on this show and all the winners, including Benji, had performed good hip hop numbers ...Kent is never going to do a good hip hop. I thought Adechike was good in hip hop (Robert has not had hip hop so who knows about his ability there.)

I suspect voting significantly goes up for the finale (also maybe next week since the audience actually gets to decide) and those new voters I don't believe will be voting for Kent - unless he pulls out like a breast cancer dance or something. People always thought it was odd that after ending up in the bottom 3 times Danny made it to the top 2, but it does make sense. In the first weeks, the judges decide so maybe there isn't an urgency to vote in those weeks (knowing the judges would save Danny), but in later weeks when the audience vote is final, people are more likely to vote. However, people who vote for contestants like Kent (read teenage girls) vote obsessively since the beginning.

I guess it just comes down to I think Adechike has more mainstream appeal and Kent probably annoys a lot of people.

However, I completely agree with your take on Mia. She has been like a cancer to the show this season (and I am still convinced she forced Nigel to put her on the panel and basically got Mary fired ... all to stroke her own ego). She is a failed dancer and I think that definitely forms her personality and the way she reacts to the dancers.

BOO!

Peaking out from behind the curtain, year gone by, and marveling at how we still like the same shows. :) I was on teh Mall in DC today for National Dance Day to see the tricks. Bopped around on the edges of the flash mob. Saw Russell and Nigel. Had my picture taken with Russell...oh and my BABY was in the picture, too. ;)

Hope all is well, Rae!!! HUGS!

YAY!

Rilla! How lovely to see you again. And I would dearly love to have my picture taken with Russell. I loved him. I'm not sure that Carrie was a fan of his. If you wish to send me pictures...I would be happy to tell you that your BABY is beautiful. No pressure, I'm just saying. It is great to hear from you and to know that we tend to still like the same shows. I seem to have much in common with my buddies, we keep looping around one another like this.

Thank you for the hugs and the happy thoughts. I do hope the National Dance Day event was a blast. I really wished I could have made it to some local event, but me and dancing are currently non-mixy things, as Buffy would say.
