...the one thing we really need for New Who to come full circle and into its own is to have the Doctor have his grandaughter as a traveling companion at the 50th Anniversary, which is coming up soon.
I like your premise, but I have misgivings about your solution. (Sorry!)
Ten already has a "daughter" whizzing about somewhere. Her daughter would be his "Granddaughter". Voila!
I lean towards this solution only because Jenny was an RTD/Moffat creation, and both of them seem to do a great deal of ...shall we say "recycling"?...of ideas. To hear RTD tell it, he killed Jenny in the first go-round, but Moffat disgreed, so he let her live. I have always assumed that Moffat would reference her again, to bring Jenny into his new show, but how much simpler if he brings her back by way of a new character who is the The Doctor's Granddaughter!
Hope I haven't dashed your hopes. It is just spec. (And then, too, with Donna married, he could find a granddaughter there too. It was "a two-way BIOLOGICAL Meta-crisis.". I'm just saying...)
