As if being ill and destitute were not enough, my computer stopped working last night.

So...Greetings from the library! SIGH!

Unfortunately, it didn't just STOP! It had a virtual meltdown on me from a nasty viral infection...very scary. It is one that causes complete lockout of every action you might try to save the computer. I couldn't access my files, or my virus protection or even restore. I did cut its access to the internet so that it couldn't continue uploading my data, but I'm not sure what damage has been done. I did pick it up off MU so beware!

The computer guy said he suspected "terrorist activity." I think he was kidding. Actually, he said he I shouldn't worry too much and that it is really a form of Malware, he believes. Anyway, he now has my pretty much useless computer and I hope he can save it. I also hope he can save my files which are not backed up because, quite naturally, I haven't been able to afford a new backup drive these last several months.

In summation...poverty sucks. The threat of unrelenting poverty due to chronic illness...sucks to the tenth power. If you know me via YIM...I will try to pop on tomorrow at 8:30 ish British Standard Time and chat. That is if I can get the library computer to access YIM for me. I should be able to go on via Meebo at the very least. Actually, maybe I will try that now.

Oh dear lord...when it rains it pours! That completely sucks. When your computer is your lifeline to the outside world, it's horrible when you lose it like that. I hope that they'll be able to fix it for you without costing too much. *HUGS*

I had a panic attack. Really my first one in years. I thought I was having a heart attack...which I hope I wasn't...since I didn't go to the hospital...

I think it was a panic attack though. I went out to the car to go to the library...and I suddenly couldn't breath and it felt like my chest had a band around it. My breath kept coming in little gasps as I imagined being trapped in the house all day by myself...

Really quite a cowardly outburst, in some ways...but still...as you say...it is my lifeline to other people...even if those people are thousands of miles away. :Leans my head on your as yet unrecovered shoulder: SIGH!

Thanks for the hug.

Just a hug for now, Princess. Thanks for being here in my hour of panic though.

I am most definitely recovered enough to offer hugs and a shoulder. I know how isolated one can get without a computer and internet access. *HUGS*

I know the isolation not having home Internet feels like when you're ill and poor.

Wow.... you need a break! Sorry to hear about the latest tragedy. At least you didn't pay for your virus. My husband *THOUGHT* he was downloading an anti-virus....sigh

Oh goodness, I am so sorry to hear this. I had a computer virus last year and went into serious panic mode also.

*huggies*

My stuff was backed up even and I still was running around like a headless chicken, panicking insanely. Partly because I was scared that the backups might ALSO be contaminated with the virus. Once my computer was cured, I ended up wiping the backups and redoing them all.

BTW, I know money is a serious problem right now, but if you can come up with $55 (USD), you can get a year's backup on carbonite.com. It's what I use because it's very cheap, pretty darn reliable, nice and secure, and there is NO LIMIT on how much you can backup (I've got over 20GB backed up there so far). And the help desk people there are great. :-)

*more huggies*
